Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles 2010, part 1

Posted by Robin on 14 January 2010 34 Comments

More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

Jean Paul Gaultier Super Le MaleLe Male La Cologne Prestige edition

From Jean Paul Gaultier, Le Mâle in "The iconic Le Male Gaultier bottle, with original scent, stars in a comic book-inspired story as Super Le Male—dressed in a removable hero's shirt—in a new collector's limited edition." Shown above left, at Nordstrom, $78 for 125 ml Eau de Toilette. And above right, Le Mâle again, this time in the La Cologne Prestige edition. At Sephora in France, 66€ for 125 ml Eau de Toilette.

Clinique Happy in Bloom 2010Clinique Happy-To-Go Fragrance Pencils

From Clinique, the 2010 version of Happy In Bloom: "A dazzling springtime bouquet. Here just for spring. Limited-edition Clinique Happy In Bloom celebrates a world suddenly in flower—sweeter, softer, brighter. Why spring is the season of constant anticipation." $39.50 for 50 ml at Macy's. Also from Clinique, the "Happy-To-Go Fragrance Pencils": "This limited-edition collection from Clinique Happy includes three Perfume Pencils: Clinique Happy in its own original scent, A Hint of Citrus and A Wealth of Flowers. Glide them on alone, or mix together. All this, plus a sharpener and mini bag." $30 at Sephora.

Estee LauderSensuous Vibrant Violet solid perfume

Paco Rabanne 1 Million 18 Carat edition

From Paco Rabanne, 1 Million in the 1 Million 18 Carat edition. The refillable bottle is covered in 18ct gold, and there's a small diamond on the front. Comes in a calfskin case lined with black sharkskin, and includes several refills and a certificate of authenticity. €42,000.  (via moodiereport)

LOVE the Sensuous LE but not the price tag.

That reminds me, I’ve a decant of Le Male I’ve been meaning to wear… going to put some on now!

I could not say why, but I want that Le Male superhero w/ the removable shirt. It’s just too cute. I like the Sensuous solid too, but yeah, that’s way too spendy for me.

I really liked that, too. I love comics, so I’m really loving the little superhero shirt. 🙂

Is it just me, or does Sensuous Vibrant Violet sound like a winner? They need to take that and run with it. The brooch (?? compact? paperweight??) is lovely, though.

The Happy pencils are kind of cute. Though I need another fragrance in my purse like I need a hole in my head.

Oh no! Robin. Not even the Crazy Lillibelle and the Poppies sticks or the Demeter minis.

I love the pencil idea and wish more brands would do them, too.

In my messenger bag: Pacifica Malibu Lemon blossom solid, AG Duel (mt SotD) and Myrrhe Ardente minis, and a sample of Le Labo Gaiac 10.

I love the Happy pencils. I don’t like the fragrance, but the idea’s adorable. And the Gaultier had me laughing. How cute! The only one I *want* is the Sensuous compact, but not bad enough to pay that price for it, though Sensuous with some violet would be divine as a flanker.

Estee Lauder has done pencils in the past. Maybe Clinique (part of EL in any case) has done them too, can’t remember.

Don’t think the Sensuous fragrance is any different in that compact (they didn’t add violet to it, I mean).

Jay Strongwater designs are always so over the top and gaudy that they’re cool.

That new Le Male bottle makes me giggle… I just can’t see too many men loving the atomizer. Then again, I always thought that the bottle would probably make a lot of macho men uncomfortable, but it seems to have sold pretty well. I myself own Classique and cannot deny that the bottle was at LEAST half the appeal.

It is hysterically funny to see the atomizer attached to the torso. Love it. But would never buy it — those things always leak.

I kinda wish they’d do an atomizer, with the spray coming out from a different anatomical point….

I saw the super hero bottle at Nordstrom a couple weeks ago. Apparently the t-shirt converts into a keychain when you take it off. I *almost* bought it for that (I’m that person with about 5 big, dangly keyrings and 3 keys).

The Sensuous violet is bee-you-tee-ful! (though grossly out of my price range) Do you know if the scent is actually violet tinged too, or is it just the regular juice?

No, just the regular (solid) juice.

Others read my mind: I wish there was a flanker called Sensous Vibrant Violet, because it might actually help me enjoy Sensuous!

It always fascinates me whenever I hear parfumistos discuss the oddity and conflict of the ‘Le Male by Gaultier’ limited edition bottles and the tongue-in-cheek campiness of the male torso packaging and advertising.

The male torso concept was a likely companion to the feminine ‘Classique’ by JPG which was based on the 1937 Elsa Schiaparelli feminine perfume ‘Shocking’ bottle, originally modelled on the late, great, Mae West’s figure.

What most men and women don’t realise is that Le Male’s concept was originally designed for Gay Men which is why it has it’s own ‘make-up for men’ line! Yes, it’s hyper-masculine and ultra-sexy, but that’s Gaultier’s little secret sense of humour when he designed the fragrance line.

I know it’s one of the best-selling macho male fragrances on the market and I hope it continues that way. My sister hates it when I remind her that the fragrance her partner wears exclusively was originally designed for men who like men; but that’s the reason why Mon.Gaultier unashamedly has the tasselled pump on the ‘luxury’ versions of the original bottle.

My personal favourite is actually ‘Fleur du Male’, another masterpiece of Francis Kirkdjian for Jean Paul Gaultier, but that’s another story ….

I have never heard Gaultier saying he originally designed “Le Male” as a fragance for men who like men. I understand he wanted to break gender taboos and allow men, whatever their sexual preference, enjoy notes tipically feminine as vainilla. The Make up line was launched in 2003 when the fragance was already a sucess for all kind of men, not only gay.

I can’t wait to get the superhero Le Male bottle! I’m gonna buy it the same day I buy FlowerBomb! The price for the super Le male is $65 on Macy’s website. It’s higher everywhere else

I think Le male should be forbidden, hate that scent, but looove the bottles.

Unfortunately this scent is quite widespread, mostly as a present! at least in the circle of my male friends.
