Smell Bent Felix Navidad ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 8 December 2009 51 Comments

Smell Bent Felix Navidad

Indie line Smell Bent has launched Felix Navidad, a new limited edition fragrance:

Felix is not just a great scent - he’s a great scent for a great cause. In a time when it’s better to think of others, we decided to team up with a great organization called Under the Bridges.

Under the Bridges helps feed the homeless in Los Angeles, and they need our help now more than ever! For every bottle of Felix Navidad purchased, $10 will go directly to Under the Bridges. This is enough to provide 10 meals for hungry individuals.

The fragrance notes include lavender absolute, a sprig of mistletoe, aged agarwood and green musk.

Smell Bent Felix Navidad is $20 for 7.5 ml Perfume Oil, and can be purchased at the Smell Bent website. (via newsletter from Smell Bent)

I don’t like oils, but I think it’s nice that they’re doing this. Wow–$10 buys 10 meals. Makes you re-think some of your smaller, frivolous expenses during the day, and where that money could go instead.

Yep. Now I’m feeling guilty about my lattes again.

Oh, save the guilt for people living extravagantly. It’s hard to feel *too* guilty when you’re bombarded with people like Bono who talk big, but continue to live bigger.

Yeah, we’re not the problem. But I have to hold onto my middle class white woman guilt, and feel bad once in a while. (Especially since I work with the homeless.)

If you work with the homeless than you shouldn’t feel bad!

I went to this company’s website the other day–very wacky! Kind of cute. But has anyone actually smelled the fragrances?

I have tried several, and some of them are pretty darn good. The best of them is the Mama Cassis, which is kind of a poor man’s Un Fleur de Cassie; for the price, they are well worth trying

How does one wear a perfume oil? Dab it on the pulse points?

They’re kind of fun. I thought Sunshine was the best of those I smelled, but Hungry Hungry Hippies made me totally laugh out loud when I sniffed it because it really does smell like marijuana and chocolate. Very strange… can’t imagine wearing it.

I’m curious about their Père Noël Coward.

I, of course, have only read about spliffs and brownies in Business Week, but it made me laugh, too. Memories. . . .of research, only research! I never inhaled. HAHAHA! Dang, now I’m hungry.

I was really curiouse to smell Hungry Hungry Hippie. Notes are similar to Fresh Cannabis Santal, no? Although I haven’t smelled that either.

Is there a pun to the name Pere Noel Coward that I am not getting? and what is with the “perfect for mad dogs and englishmen” description on the website? I don’t get it!

Pere Noel is what Santa is called in France, and Noel Coward wrote a famous song called Mad Dogs and Englishmen. I think you have to be a fan to get the relevance. But there’s no pun, just being funny with Pere Noel + Noel Coward.

I love agarwood too…the lavender, not so much. This could be nicely green & woody though.

I love lavender as a room scent, either in candles, potpourri or spray. I’ve even added the oil to my bath to relax. But it never works as a note in a perfume for me.

Their good idea helped me decide to run one of my on-line classes at a reduced price and give a chunk to a CREF–a charity that helps artists who have met with a disaster. I like the idea of doing something positive at this time of year. And this keeps the momentum going.

I love it when it’s easy to be generous. When it’s tough–I’m not so generous.

Well, as one of the few here who enjoys lavender, and one of the very few who will wear oils, this may have to be my “charitable contribution” this season. One of them, anyway. Sounds rather nice! The kitty is cute.

I really wanted to snag their LE Halloween line but wasn’t able to at the time. But I love this concept. I don’t know if the frag would really be something I’d wear, but the clear disclosure about how much is going to charity and the goals they are aiming for is really great. Well done, Smell Bent.

I shouldn’t keep saying I hate lavender when there really are a few I love (Jicky) but it isn’t a favorite note.

I like that there’s a definite percentage of proceeds going to the charity. If there isn’t a definite number, I always think, “.01 is still a percent!”

Yes, and for many considerably more spendy perfumes, the percentage they give is much, much lower.

    Here kitty, kitty, kitty!

I’ve only had one perfume oil, from The Body Shop and that was over a decade ago. Somehow spraying gives me more pleasure than dabbing. Totally loving their charitable efforts!
