Lalique Encre Noire Pour Elle ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 30 July 2009 30 Comments

Lalique Encre Noire Pour ElleLalique will launch Encre Noire Pour Elle, the feminine counterpart to 2006's Encre Noire, in September. Encre Noire Pour Elle was developed by perfumer Christine Nagel:

Because Lalique does not spend on advertising, preferring instead to invest in the fragrance itself, the company gave Nagel a completely free rein for the fragrance, with the proviso that she used vetiver, the key note of the male fragrance, and feminised it with floral notes.

Nagel said that normally such a brief would take a year to fulfil, but in this case it took just six months.

The notes for the floral woody musk fragrance feature bergamot, vetiver, musk, kephalis, freesia, rose, osmanthus, cedar and ambrette seed.

Lalique Encre Noire pour Elle will be available in 50 (£55) and 100 (£71) ml Eau de Parfum and in a limited edition Parfum (99 numbered bottles, £600). (quote via cosmeticsinternational, additional information via cosmoty.de)

Interesting to note its the second vetiver based scent (after Guerlain’s Vetiver reincarnation as Vetiver pour Elle) to cross over to the light side (there may be more but this immediately came to mind)! What’s with you gals and vetiver!?!

Vetiver, straight up, is more interesting than most women’s fragrances these days, LOL…but seriously, I think that the point of this one, as with the Guerlain, is that the brand is well aware that many women wear the men’s version. I have no way of knowing, but if I had to guess, I’d say more women STILL wear the regular Guerlain as opposed to the Vetiver Pour Elle…

All those Guerlain Les Parisiennes can be found at the various Guerlain boutiques: Bergdorf Goodman in NYC, Niemans in San Francisco, Palazzo in Las Vegas, The Breakers, Epcot, etc. They all ship and sometimes for free if they’re having deals. Not affiliated…

Ahhhh…. getting my NST fix after some serious cold-turkey therapy! Nice to see new posts and I hope you’re enjoying your vacation whereever you may be (hopefully a beautiful Atlantic beach, NOT whipped by that recent rash of freak storms!).

I’ll be excited to smell this. I love vetiver and enjoy the original EN, and I’m thinking it would be great with some floral accords to lighten things up. I also need to try that Guerlain VPE.

I will be on a beautiful Atlantic beach eating french fries w/ vinegar by Saturday!

Meantime, I’m looking forward to this one too. Still say Guerlain V is better than Guerlain VPE though.

Ah! My favorite junk food – french fries with malt vinegar. After I’ve doused the fries, I have to take several deep inhales of grease and vinegar vapors before I can eat them. It almost makes my eyes water, but I love it! lol It’s all part of the experience for me. 🙂

As is the smell of sea air…I do not care for fries w/ vinegar anywhere else 🙂

Not sure about this for myself… vetiver-focused often means a little too dry for my taste… but saw a post on perfume shrine concerning this one, with pictures of the bottle in other sizes, and they’re just gorgeous. NOT that we buy scent for the bottle, right? But a very pretty take on the men’s bottle.

Here’s the link to Helg’s post – hope it’s not too big, hope it’s okay to reference:

LOL…no, we would never buy for the bottle! The bottle for the original was gorgeous too, so good thing I loved the scent. The prettiest one is the flat one though, and that, of course, is the one I could never afford 🙂

I only hope I love the Pour Elle as much as I love the original! Encre Noire is so amazing it still astounds me every time I smell it.

It’s perfect. Did not feel the need for a feminine version at all, but will be interested to smell this anyway!

BOTTLE IS SERIOUS GORGEOUS!!!!!!! Encre Noire took a good deal of time before i succumbed to it’s charms… now… i am hooked! but i think this version might be on my fragrance bar as well given the dryness and freshness of some of the notes! sounds like it will be even better than the men’s! 😀

Not that I don’t think this might be good… but who needs pour elle when the original EN is so wonderful?:) Will try this, but will never part with the men’s version – it’s a treasure!

This post has made me seriously want to try the original one! I have been finding that whatever aroma-chemical they use for osmanthus in fragrances really amps up into something extremely sweet and synthetic on my skin, so this new feminine one won’t make my to try list.

The original is one of my favorite vetivers.

Well, I actually haven’t smelled the original of this or the Guerlain Vetiver, but I did try the Vetiver Pour Elle not long ago and am dying for some. I never run into Lalique scents anywhere (or haven’t looked, more like) but I will be interested in sniffing both versions.

Robin, I hope you’re having a lovely vacation. I like fries the same way, but only at the fair once a year. Tama, ouch and I do hope you feel better! And yes, it’s good to have reviews, though after the shopping I did today, I’m proceeding with care. 😉

I really need to explore more vetiver. This sounds beautiful, but I’m not horribly familiar with that specific note, though I imagine I’ve quite likely smelled it before. Just not as a focus in a composition, at least by name. Time to put together an order of samples… 😉

Such a disappointment. Really liked the men’s version, but this was nothing like it. Returned it to the store.
