A decanter’s dream

Posted by Robin on 8 July 2009 31 Comments

A new refillable 4.7 ml atomizer. It looks like it would prevent waste and spillage while decanting (more info below the jump):

Update: the video is no longer available, sorry!

I cannot seem to load the website listed in the video (www.flospain.es), but the product itself is for sale at Lothantique in Canada, for $16.90 US:

An innovative & stylish refillable fragrance atomizer (patented) which enables a quick & easy filling and refilling of perfume or eau de toilette from a “regular size” bottle (15-200 ml. either spray or pour) into a small “carry/ travel size” unit.

Many thanks to Joy for the link!

This is great for people who like to layer their perfumes or combine them to make their own signature scent. Just spray a little of each in here, and it comes out already mixed.

Ack. Do people really do that? I don’t know why, but I would never…would rather layer them right on skin.

I mix Hiris and Infusion d’Iris in a 15ml atomizer and apply as one. It is the best of both, really. That is the only one I pre-mix though. Others I layer as the mood hits me.

          Interesting. I don’t know why I wouldn’t do that, but I think I wouldn’t!

It hardly counts but I mix Demeters in atomizers all the time. Caramel plus Black Pepper and Lavender plus Vetiver are two favourites; I know they’ll go well together so it saves having to locate and open two bottles when I want the blend.

If only they were, say, $4! LOL…not likely, but anyone who swaps in a big way can’t afford to spend that on every bottle they send…

True, true…but this is progress and hopefully it will be popular enough that other companies will produce similar models at cheaper prices and with wider availability. Maybe in a couple years they’ll be available in drugstores at drugstore prices.

Ok, between the fact that it is called “Flo,” the “No leaks, no spills, no hassles”, and it’s size and shape, if one was to watch only the end of the video, you would be pretty sure this was a feminine hygiene product.

OTHER THAN THAT… What a cool device! I wonder how much the atomizers are, though. It would be awesome to use for trades with people, but I can see that getting real expensive real fast.

Ok, I’m an idiot–the product IS the atomizer. Duh. So, umm, yeah–probably not worth it for $17 a pop.

Yes, it’s really too expensive for swapping. Would be awesome if you could buy the glass inserts separately though!

the added interest would probably just make them rub their greedy paws together in glee “we’ve got them now, my pretty!”

I was thinking of something sinisterly medical; reproductive technology of some sort. Don’t wanna go there.

It wouldn’t be washable though, would it? You would just use it to decant different bottle types of the same scent?

I am confused! However whizzy and versatile, it needs to be re-usable to make me really sit up. Or very cheap….

A metal funnel was the best invention I have come across. Or am I missing something?

I do not really see how it is reusable in the sense that you could use it for another fragrance…I think only in the sense that you could add more as you needed to. To me, the glory of it seems to be that it’s easier to decant into…especially for those of use who don’t feel like using a metal funnel every time.

I like the atomizer from Girl2Go. Even though it doesn’t have a fancy design, it’s got a wide enough opening that it’s easy to spray into. And it’s only $2.95. Here’s a link FYI: http://wists.com/everyone/under_3/a438f0ad51073c38c839839301910a15?offset=0

$2.95 is a LOT better! I may look into that. Of course, I still want “$5 for a pack of 20,” but a girl can dream.

The Travalo fills the way a lighter fills–nice! Very cleverly thought through.

I would probably worry about its leaking, though. And the lifetime warranty involves a shipping fee of £2.95, which is probably not outrageous since the thing costs £9.95, but that to me is a lot of money for an atomizer (almost $19 Cdn, shipping not included).

I think I’ll stick to 1-mL sample vials in my carry-on luggage for now.

So close, but yet, still so far.
What I really want would be a gizmo with NO plastic parts, only glass or metal, that it’s OK to run through the dishwasher, that can do the plug-in and easy-refill thing, but do it again and again and again without contaminating anything.
In addition, I really really really want to find a sleek and attractive travel-friendly metal casing thing which either a.) fits the majority of my 5 ml decants, or b.) is adjustable to fit a variety of decant sizes securely, or c.) comes with (or purchase separately) cheap but functional glass spray bottles that fit it perfectly to decant into.

That would be so perfect and convenient.
Who’s going to invent this for me? (And make a fortune off of it? – Who knows?)
