Ricci Ricci by Nina Ricci ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 11 June 2009 84 Comments

Nina Ricci Ricci Ricci perfumeNina Ricci will launch Ricci Ricci, a new perfume for women, in September.

Ricci Ricci is an urban heroine.

She is glamorous and audacious.

She has a secret power: her fragrance - symbolized by her ribbon.

Ricci Ricci features notes of rhubarb zest, bergamot, moonflower, tuberose, centifolia rose, patchouli and sandalwood.

Ricci Ricci by Nina Ricci will be available in 30, 50 and 80 ml Eau de Parfum and in matching body products. It is now available for pre-order at Escentual in the UK. (via escentual)

Also new from Nina Ricci: L’Air du Printemps, Love by Nina.

Update: Ricci Ricci was developed by perfumers Aurelien Guichard and Jacques Huclier and is described as a "fresh, floral sensual fragrance". (via moodiereport)

Another update: From Women's Wear Daily ~

Whereas Nina’s core age target is 18 to 25, Ricci Ricci’s is expected to be the 20-to-45 set, said [Puig brand officer José Manuel] Albesa. “It’s a very ‘gourmand’ fragrance,” he explained.

It’s good to know that her secret power is symbolized by the pink ribbon, I might have mistakenly associated it with her cat-ears, driving gloves or evening gown! If she’d turn around, maybe there’s a cat-tail too.
Ok, now that I’ve had my fun….I’d actually like to smell this…the rhubarb zest and moonflower (?) sound intriguing…of course I’m always willing to give something with bergamot a go and I’ve recently discovered that some tuberose IS my friend!

uh…yeah….and my fragrance is symbolized by…..my garden shovel that I keep in the garage….or…this lava lamp I keep on the bookshelf… how very random of them!

The ribbon thing cracked me up too. Rhubarb = good though. We’ll see. I’m guessing, based on nothing, that this is aimed slightly older than Nina, which could also be good.

        Rhubarb zest?

Implying a citrus aspect mixed with rhubarb?

Sounds a lot like rhubofix to me. I wonder if this will share any aspects with pamplemousse rose.

Do you know if firmenich composed this?

It beats “Nina Ricci Eau de Parfum” — I’m really tired of eponymous scent names.

Finally, someone issuing a 30 ml size! But how do you get zest from rhubarb? It doesn’t have a rind!

I wonder if they really mean “stem” ?? or maybe they have a really really really small zester that they’ve rubbed lightly along the leaf….did I mention it’d be a really small zester?

LOL! I’m sure it’s just “zesty rhubarb” — maybe it’s that same rhubofix that’s in Hermes Pamplemousse.

ooohhh! Hermes Pamplemousse….lust lust lust lust…..and I finally got hold of a 15ml size of Rose Ikebana (for my daughter who loves it, but I get to steal a spritz now and again) and now I’m already panting over the Pamplmousse!

However—she chose to wear AT Une Rose Chypree over to pick up her diploma today and applied 4 (count ’em, 4) spritzes and then had to change her shirt because she didn’t realize how very powerful Une Rose Chypree is….my kitchen still smells of it….

I love Nina Ricci and can’t wait to try the new fragrance, and yes, I’m ready to be disappointed, but I’ll still love Nina Ricci.
Rhubarb has a zest, but it’s thin… but I’d say it’s their way of saying it’s gonna be a fresh and zesty rhubarb. I’m afraid of it, because I hate rhubarb in Brit Red.
Moonflower according to Google could be Ipomoea alba flower or datura…

I tried a sample. It wasn’t at all sweet as you might expect from the name, and as I remember the rhubarb faded pretty quickly, but it was interesting while it lasted. Sort of a novelty–I don’t think I’d want to wear it often!

I’ll have to try this one. It’ll probably be available at dept stores and Sephora, for easy testing, right? I like Rhubarb (that’s one of the top notes in Rose Ikebana I think)– but not sure about tuberose with it. I’m not a huge Tuberose fan (I like it in Michael by Michael Kors, but L’A Tubereuse makes me gag).

Gville–tuberose is funny like that isn’t it? I thought I hated, and by that I mean HATED, because of a previous, unpleasant perfume experience….but then I smelled it in some nicer perfumes and said hey this is alright! So I guess how it’s handled in the formula makes a huge difference. This one might be great! Especially with that zesty rhubarb to cut the cloy-iness of Tuberose.

It really is a strange note– you never know what you’re going to get when it’s listed. I haven’t found a soliflore that worked for me, but sometimes it’s really nice in a mutlifacted frag. And I would imagine that the rhubarb COULD really balance out that milkiness nicely. So I really look forward to this one.

I’m curious about the tuberose. But I’m afraid it’s gonna be the sterile white flower thing we have in every fragrance now. It taught me to really appreciate natural white flowers with all their pros and cons.

Well now…Catwoman was pretty cool, after all. Like the bottle, don’t get the ribbon…basically, ditto everything above. On the tuberose: a week ago it would have been an automatic no-go, but I tried something this week w/o knowing it had tuberose, couldn’t pick it out… so I guess that makes it no longer an automatic no. Only if it’s a central/focus note.

Catwoman was definitely cool. I bet HER power wasn’t symbolized by a ribbon.
The ad doesn’t really say “Catwoman” to me, but “college Halloween party.” I have to say, the “cat chic” has been done to death. You’ve been to one, where the women refused to wear a real costume because the guys couldn’t see how chic and pretty they were–they all wore the little black dresses with cats’ ears and tail.

OOOOHHHH MOONFLOWER! haven’t smelled that in a fragrance since WAY back when when the Body Shop did a fragrance based on it! It is a very nice Smell! and I am Adoring the Bottle! sounds like a Zesty Kinda fragrance with some depth, not unusual but sounds good enough to buy unsmelled! Nina Ricci has a pretty good, (well DAMNED GOOD) track record making Excellent fragrances and this might verge on that if done right!

although i do agree… that Catwoman-like ad is too Hilarious!

I sprayed it on my hand, and under the fruits smelt something familiar and “very Nina Ricci”. Now it’s closer to to dry down, and i suddenly recalled: Deci Dela! Are Jean Guichard (Deci Dela’s nose) and Aurelien Guichard related?

I can comment that I have finally tried this, as it has formally launched just 10 days ago here in Buenos Aires (see how freaky this is? we got Eaudemoiselle almost at the same time as the rest of the world, but Ricci Ricci took almost 8 months to get here!)

I can say that I like it. The opening is sweet, but not VEEERY sweet. It reminds me of sugared candy gels, like strawberry or other sweet fruits, and that is added by the rhubarb. it lasts quite a while (20 to 30 minutes) and then it the middle part smells of what I can suspect is the moonflower (I have never smelled that before and I cannot connect it with anything else), the rose and by the end It does actually remind me of Deci Dela… powedery but “orange” in a way… The powdery orange drydown of Deci Dela was at least 3 times stronger than this, though.
There is a smokey “something” going down on the drydown too, but it is really too faint to tell… Maybe the sandalwood.
The patchouli I cannot detect in this for the life of me….

I was so excited for this fragrance to make its debut. I was so disappointed. I found it unbearably sweet. I think it has to do with the Rhubarb, Tuberose, Patchouli combination. Although I love all these notes, together they did not workout for me.
I agree with Kaos about the candy. I felt like I’d walked into a candy factory and it lingered closer to an hour in my case. Mid notes were nice with the moonflower presenting itself and the sandalwood was quite subtle at the very end.
Unfortunately, I cannot get past the candy shop. Way sweeter than than I care for. I have a hard time thinking they might have targeted the 30-45 age group with this. Funny, my son always likes to commend when something I wear smells good. He said “maybe not mommy” to this one BUT he gave the Givenchy EauDemoiselle a “thumbs up!”.

As soon as I sprayed on Ricci Ricci I had a comforting feeling which reminded me of the smell whafting from a steamy bathroom when having a bubble bath.

Ive heard that its nice from alot of the blogs. Most people are saying it smells like apple pie/apples & cinnamon. That sounds fine to me. I’ll get Ricci Ricci & say Im wearing Ambre Narguile. If they smell similar of course. : )

at first, i purchased this perfume because im so attracted by the bottle but quite sure about the smell. honestly at first it smells like a cigarette for me but for a few seconds, it turns out a very sexy and seductive fragrance… believe me, i am a gay man with ordinary face. but im getting attention with plenty of guys if i were this perfume…
