Perfume in the Magazines: Allure, June 2009

Posted by Robin on 26 May 2009 8 Comments

Allure magazine, June 2009Perfume coverage in the June issue of Allure, and as always, please comment on any fragrance coverage you've seen in other fashion & beauty magazines lately:

Cover: Jessica Biel.

Scent strips: Sexy Intrigue by Degree (deodorant & body mist).

Editorial coverage: The Beauty Reporter section includes a "Smell This" feature in which random passersby comment on the new Gap Close (p. 48).

Winner's Circle announces the winners of Allure's Reader's Choice Awards. The best women's fragrance: a tie between Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy and Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers. The men get two categories: Axe Instinct won for best men's fragrance from discount stores, Giorgio Armani Acqua di Giò for best men's fragrance from department stores. (p. 106).

Beauty and The Beat asks Simon Doonan, creative director at Barneys, to guess the celebrity behind six popular fragrances. (p. 111)

Update: many thank to moongrrl for pointing out the winners of the Reader's Choice awards for "Classic Fragrance" — Love's Baby Soft in the discount category, Chanel No. 5 for the department store category.

There were also two classic fragrance winners, Love’s Baby Soft and Chanel No. 5.

The “Beauty and the Beat” section is particularly worth reading. I love Simon Doonan, but I forgot to read the by-line before jumping into reading the descriptions. I thought to myself, “This sounds like Simon Doonon reviewing these.” I checked and sure enough it was! So enjoyable I re-read it several times.

I don’t know him, but it was very funny — loved how he got only one right & admitted it was because he saw the cap 🙂

I love Simon Doonan – mostly because of the Brit TV series Beautiful People, based on his book about his childhood. Hilarious!

I’m kicking myself for not keeping June’s Lucky. I’ve noticed, however, that Lucky tends to have lots of fragrance coverage (albeit mostly mainstream fragrances) compared to other mags, and it also usually has at least a few scent strips.

Maybe I should start getting Lucky again…I used to, but let it go.
