Twilight ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 28 December 2008 50 Comments

Twilight is a new perfume launching in conjunction with the new movie of the same name, which was in turn adapted from the popular novel by Stephenie Meyer.

The forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest! So take a bite of this apple-shaped bottle. It contains a delicious lavender and freesia scented perfume.

Twilight is available in 80 ml "Scented Perfume Spray", $48, and can be purchased at Hot Topic, one bottle per customer. It can also be found at selected Borders stores. Many thanks to Charlene for the tip!

Mariage Freres Rose d’Himalaya candle ~ home fragrance review

My memories of India are of mornings filled with mystery and anticipation. The haunting sound of the first call to prayer from the muezzin swirling in through an open window with the pre-dawn mist, waking the peacocks who add their plaintive cry. Chants from the Sikh gurdwara follow soon, as do tendrils of rosy sweet dhoop (incense) that meld with the dung-fire smoke from the villages, as early morning puja begins. By the time morning has settled in, the mists have burned away, and the koyal birds have begun their sweet song that will continue through the rest of a day bursting with sunshine, as the green parrots in the trees resume their daily gossip and the vendors begin to make their rounds, crying out their offerings of fresh orange juice, vegetables and shoe repair. Cows come grazing along the street, sometimes stopping to inquire mildly into the goings-on of the households they pass…

A bottle for Christmas

Posted by Robin on 27 December 2008 5 Comments

And yet my father had been buying it for years. I was resolved to get it for him, among other reasons because I had promised and had made it sound so easy. But I began to panic. I knew this was his last year, and I desperately wanted to get my hands on a bottle for Christmas.

— Columnist André Aciman goes to lengths that many of you will sympathize with to find a bottle of his father's favorite cologne, Aria di Parma. Read more at Should an Old Fragrance Be Forgot: A writer's quest for his father's discontinued Italian aftershave at the Wall Street Journal. Many thanks to Ruth for the link!

Lazy Friday poll ~ holiday open thread

Posted by Robin on 26 December 2008 128 Comments

Tell us whatever you want! Did you get any wonderful perfumed presents, are you wearing something wonderful today? Are you shopping for after-Christmas bargains?

I meant to buy myself a bottle of Diorissimo extrait for Christmas. Regular readers know I've been wanting one for a very long time. Earlier this month when Saks had a discount code, I went online and ordered it. Surprisingly, the site accepted two coupon codes, so I got a discount plus free shipping. It didn't arrive, and when I called Saks earlier this week, they had no record of my order, and whatever stock they had must had sold out because it's no longer listed on their website. Maybe next year!

Other than that, we had a perfect Christmas, and I'm polishing off the last of the brownies even as I type...
