Clive Christian has invited 50 student composers from the London Royal College of Music to create piano compositions inspired by the line's three fragrances, X, 1872 and No. 1. You can follow the project at the website, The Sound of Perfume. Nine finalists will play their compositions in front of a live audience on February 4; the winner will receive "a generous cash prize".
All proceeds from the project will be used to establish a scholarship at the Royal College of Music. (found via gcimagazine)

I love this notion, because when I apply a perfume, I hear (in my head) a chord – – it's fascinating to me.
Never too late! Although probably too late for this particular venture.

Hmm, I love the idea; wish it was being done for a more interesting
line though – No 1 and 1872 simply bore me to tears – and X (to my
nose) is the best of the worst in this collection – fruityish chypre with
slight spices in the background. Could make for a decent sounding
little ditty on the piano,
Now if only they did the same thing for Frederic Malle or Lutens….
would love to hear a Carnal Flower sonata! 🙂

Well, now, I am a bit envious of both you synesthetes. Did you see Ratatouille, where when our hero tastes food, he hears/sees music/colors? I don't hear singing or see things when I smell perfumes, but I often get moods (emotions).
