I love perfume and all its pageantry, which has taken a product intended to mask the quotidian odors of the human body and elevated it to the luxury pantheon. A reductionist view is that perfume has us smelling like someone else instead of ourselves; and it seems that this proposition is hugely successful. Personally I would not want to smell like footballer David Beckham (especially when he comes off the pitch) but it would seem that enough men do to make the idea of a David Beckham cologne viable.

Talking about smelling like other people, or rather, trying NOT to smell like other people in my case… I've recently discovered that I really really like J'adore by Christian Dior. It just crept up on me, ever since I bought my mother-in-law a bottle last Christmas, I just suddenly developed a strong liking for it! And now I want to buy it but I obviously don't want to smell like the MIL.
So I don't know what to do! I want to find something similiar but it's proving impossible; I've just spent the whole afternoon in the perfume hall at Liberty's and there's only so much arm I can spray on, LOL.
That's why I'm here by the way, trying to gather some inspiration. Lovely fragrant blog.
Oh dear, that's hard. I wonder if you could buy the body cream and then layer something else on top of it? Good luck!

So what? Good for you for liking J'Adore. I like Pure Poison- I just do. Robin what is that french saying about taste that you wrote about in perfume snobbery? But if you really want to change it up-just for you; I would suggest mixing it with some Demeter's mini splashes, like Incense or Cinnamon Toast or whatever. Lotion wise I use L'Occitane Amber body cream. It depends on what you want to change. I also use Cardamon and Amber oil by Red Flower, if I am feeling sexy. Body by Victoria is a very fresh clean smelling lotion that has some freesia in it, if you want to soften or change it a little.Any clean smelling body lotion or oil, will make it a smell brighter and it will last longer too.
The companies make fragrances to be mass appealing. I use to feel bad for liking one…not anymore (thanks Robin).
It would be an interesting blog if there was a poll/survey of people's favorite deodorants. They also define, are fine, or clash with your scent. And there are so many out there now.

In the drydown phase, Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. is remarkably similar to J'Adore, though it has several more sweet florals in it. Apply sparingly for best results. Perhaps Diorissimo would also not be a million miles away?
