Gucci Flora ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 5 December 2008 26 Comments

Gucci Flora fragranceGucci will launch Flora, a new fragrance for women named after their "iconic floral print Flora", first used on a Gucci scarf created in 1966 for Princess Grace. Flora is geared towards a younger customer than Gucci's latest feminine scent, Gucci by Gucci. According to Frida Giannini, Gucci's creative director,

Flora is lighter, the floral scent of course evokes a younger consumer, and she has a hedonistic, daring side. I don’t want to say that Flora is the daughter of Gucci by Gucci but maybe the younger sister.

The new floral fragrance features notes of citrus, peony, rose, osmanthus, sandalwood and patchouli.

Gucci Flora will be introduced this coming April, and will be available in 30, 50 and 75 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching body products. (via wwd)

if the patchouli is like really patchouli-ish this could be ok

But patchouli is never patchouli-ish these days…and if this is lighter & fresher than Gucci by Gucci, seems unlikely!

lol I know thats why I questioned the patchouli-ness as soon as I saw it in the notes

It does say “daring and hedonistic”… but that might not mean anything (and probably won't)

Love the Ad Campaign! LOVE IT! and the bottle looks sweet too! Peony, Rose and My Cherished Osmanthus, Sounds like a winner in the making! All of the Gucci Scents have had such A FABULOUS Pedigree, From Gucci No. 3 To Gucci Envy, To Gucci Eau De Parfum to The Lovely Gucci By Gucci (the Men's Version Kicks Buttocks! ) that i can't possibly imagine this being anything other than Fantastic! 🙂 Hope myself that it is literally DRIPPING with patchouli and Sandalwood amongst all those refined Florals, It's rare to have a Fragrance with Osmanthus truly and deliciously REEK of Patchouli and Sandalwood and it's one floral essence that can carry itself if that does occur! Peony too! So, Let's Cross Our Collective Fingers, Eh?!?!?!?!

I like that ad campaign too — but am going to be really surprised if this one is dripping with either patchouli or sandalwood!

I will have to try this since it's named after me- 😀 – of course Flora is my “screen name” but still….and it sounds nice, I adore peony and osmanthus, I hope it's a good one.

Unfortunately, I have to agree… Parfumers seem reluctant to use the old Power Essences of Bygone Days, Like in fragrances such as Opium and Poison and even Further Back like the Original Bandit or older Patou Fragrances…. they seem to be making lighter versions of everything left and right and center and it is kinda sad!

Viva La Patchouli, Vive Le Sandalwood! 🙂

i agree with nlb, Stella popped in to my head right away….adding a touch perhaps of Voleur de Roses, that is IF the patch is “oozing” lol. i will keep expectations low and hope to be pleasantly surprised 🙂

    adding: i want that scarf

For a scent that has patchouli listed in the notes, the juice seems pretty light-colored.

Well, you know none of them can afford sandalwood anymore, so that's pretty much out…

saw it today at gucci – very faint – airy like the scarf….or maybe its just the dry down….hmmm but the faintness is very “fresh skin”-like….i'd wear this but i want to know how it develops…

Thanks! Not sure I even have a local Gucci boutique, but need to get over to Neiman Marcus and see if they have a tester yet.

I smelled it this past weekend and for some reason it reminded me of Realities by Liz Claiborne (which in turn always reminded me of one of those scented bug sprays). Gucci's “pink” fragrances (Gucci II and Envy Me) as well as the original Envy still reign in my book!

Envy is much more floral upon first sniff. Didn’t find the top note floral at all despite the name.

First sniff on the test strip – very citrus, very nice. I wonder if it would last though. Didn’t find out…

I’ve only given it one try on skin so far, so I need to try it again too.

I’m 46 years old, and this scent smells fabulous! Younger consumer be damned, I’ll take my husband’s advice on what smells great on me! 🙂
