Yes, we're a day late! Julie is our victim of the week. Julie is looking for a new signature fragrance to replace her long-time love, Calvin Klein Obsession. What we know about Julie:

Julie is in her 40s and happily married.

She leads a busy, active life, including a full-time job plus a part-time job reviewing restaurants for her local paper. She also designs jewelry, and is caring for her mother who has terminal cancer.

Julie loves shoes, handbags & clothes, but tends to save her money for other things. She is willing to splurge on the right perfume though!

Julie wore Obsession for many years, then after having surgery 8 years ago, it never smelled the same to her…

Allure Aug 08 I only subscribe to one fashion & beauty magazine, and that's Allure, and the only reason I subscribe at all is for the fragrance coverage. But I tend to let the issues pile up unread, and I thought if I started posting something about each month's fragrance coverage it might encourage me to read them sooner, and better yet, some of you might be willing to chime in with whatever fragrance coverage you've seen in other fashion & beauty magazines lately.

One of the many obstacles facing perfume consumers today is how to go about finding fragrances they might like in the great sea of new releases. As I've written in the past, reading the list of fragrance notes for a given perfume can be misleading, but sometimes it's about all you have to go on other than the ad visuals or celebrity sponsorship. Just because you find Jude Law sexy as all get out, it doesn't mean you're going to love Dior Homme Sport; likewise, just because you like jasmine and saffron, it doesn't mean Ungaro by Ungaro is going to appeal to you.

Still, it helps to know a little something about fragrance notes. Most of us have neither the time nor the inclination to smell absolutely everything. Figuring out which notes you find attractive and which you detest can at least help you to narrow down your choices…
