old letterboxFor anyone joining us midstream, the Monday Mail is our weekly feature in which we help a reader to find a new fragrance. Chantelle, who is studying Semiotics and Communication Theory at a Canadian university, is our victim of the week. Here are a few more details about Chantelle:

She describes herself as “confident, reflective, and a Type B+ personality”.

Her interests include music, literature, philosophy and travel.

Fashion is important to Chantelle, and she is “very picky about the cut and shape” of her clothing. She likes jewel-toned shirts and dark skinny jeans, and describes her style as “well-arranged but still lots of fun”…

Right now, farmers in northeast North Carolina are harvesting an unusual crop that allows perfume, cologne and other fragrances to last longer, replaces a product previously gleaned from an endangered species and adds beauty to local roadsides in early summer.

The Swedish Summer Soap by Victoria Scandinavian Soap

First things first: I strongly dislike summer. I’ll do anything possible to avoid high temperatures and strong sunlight, I never wear shorts or flip-flops, and I’m customarily immune to the appeal of any product claiming to evoke the experience of the beach. All the same, I couldn’t resist the packaging of The Swedish Summer Soap from Victorian Scandinavian Soap. The cheerful illustration of a sailboat beneath a sunny sky, the Swedish labeling on other side of the box (“Saltsjötvål” is the soap’s true name), and the promise that the soap “floats in fresh and salt water,” not that I have plans of using it anywhere other than my own shower — somehow, this all promises an ideal vision of a summer that would leave me feeling rosy-cheeked and optimistic rather than sweaty, dehydrated, and irritable…

Jo Malone ~ shopping for perfume in London

Jo Malone in Sloane StreetThere are six Jo Malone outlets in London. Four of these are stand-alone shops; the other two are in Harrods and Selfridges department stores.

The flagship store is in Sloane Street; a sleek corner location with topiary outside the door. It’s at the quiet Sloane Square end of the street.

It’s a very pleasant space to be in, with ‘Tasting Bars’ for brief therapies such as arm massage…
