Celebrity perfume news round-up 2008, part the eleventh

Posted by Robin on 5 July 2008 40 Comments

Kim KardashianKim Kardashian (check her Wikipedia entry if, like me, you have no idea who she is) is working with perfumer Caroline Sabas (J Lo Miami Glow, Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy) on her debut fragrance. Look for it to debut in May 2009. (via officialkimkardashian, found via monstersandcritics)

Halle Berry, who as you may remember has signed with Coty for her debut fragrance, says she has been mixing her own blends at home for years. "I am passionate about this project as I’ve always wanted hands-on experience in creating a fragrance that is a true representation of me.” Read more (and see still shots from her upcoming fragrance ad) at Just Jared.

The Irish pop band Westlife hopes to have their debut fragrance, X by Westlife, on shelves by Christmas. (via The Sunday Mirror, 6/22/2008)

LOL — the superficial has more celebrity info than I can take at one sitting! But if you want to know, I guess that's the place 🙂

I am wondering if SJP's Covet has really been discontinued? If they still sell it at perfumania about how long will it be available?

All I have heard is that it was pulled from Macys, not that it was discontinued. Not a good sign, of course, but still, too early to say.

No word of discontinuing Covet has come to Nordstrom.

I have to say… WHEN will this celeb fad end?
(probably nowhere in the near future)

Something tells me it won't be very good looking at Caroline's previous creations. Also, if it is Kim Kardashian (whom I only know whose famous for a big ass and sex tape) it is obviously going to be disappointing.

Nah. She's just a spoiled little rich girl with a sex tape that was 'stolen' & released. She's a friend of Paris Hilton…

It'll end when politicians try to get involved. Would you buy Mitt Romney's Eau Noire de Massachusetts Extreme?

If she's still building her “Brand identity” how can she conceptualize or create a fragrance?

Although she is a pretty girl, it doesn't look promising to me.

Perhaps the fragrance will be her “brand identity”. In fact, that is how I think of some celebs, like Paris Hilton — what I know of them is via their perfume lines.

That's true. Although I think SJP has raised the bar on celeb frags…

Yes, she has! But she was also one celebrity I “knew” before she launched the scents, so unlike Paris Hilton, I don't think of SJP primarily in terms of her perfumes. If that makes any sense 🙂

Covet is completely gone from Macy's. Other places might have it, but they won't be getting any new bottles. They'll just sell the stock of what they have. Sad, because I love Covet WAYYYYYYY More than Lovely!

You have confirmed this with Coty? Because you may be right, but I wouldn't believe it just because a Macy's SA said so.

Eh, no, I haven't spoken to anyone from COTY, but I've called the Macy's in New York, in San Francisco and a lot of others and they all said the same thing. When I first became obsessed with it I was just calling around just to see how it was selling, and Robin, EVERY single Macy's I called said the same thing. I would ask how Covet is doing and they'd all go “It isn't selling too well here. People don't really like it” and I remember that's how I was at first. I sprayed it on a card and I HATED it. I tried it a second time and I HATED it again, but when I left Macy's I had the card I sprayed it on in my hand, so I threw it somewhere in my car. Like 10 minutes later it perfumed my whole car and it smelled really good. A lot of people don't give it the second chance I did. My friend at macy's said people who spray it on cards don't like it, but the people who spray it on their bodies don't like it at first, but they come back an hour later and say the dry-down smells really good and they purchase it

Sorry for the long rants Robin, but the thing that got me REALLY scared Covet would get the axe was when I read the notes for Pure Bloom. They can't go wrong with a fruity tropicalish fragrance, so maybe they'll recoup some of the money they lost with Covet. Teenagers will flock to that kind of scent

I asked my Nordies SA today about Covet. According to her, it's not being discontinued, they aren't carrying it due to lagging sales.

I just shot Coty an email, to check. And EBay has tons of it, at really good prices.

No worries! And I won't be surprised if Covet does get axed, but I also wouldn't be surprised if Macy's told their sales staff it was discontinued when that wasn't exactly true — it happens all the time.

I'm sooo sad :(. Just when I fell in love with Covet, they snatch the rug from under me! Is there a place where you can get the actual sales, Robin?

    Hi JloveLamar,

I just got a reply from the Coty reps, you'll be happy to hear that Covet is not being discontinued. They forwarded a link to me where you can search for distributors, such as ULTA.

I'm not sure if it's appropriate for me to post it here?

I went to the website and clicked on “Where to buy” and I went to Dillard's, Macy's, Nordstrom, and LordandTaylor's websites and all they had was Lovely. I just called Nordstrom and the SA was like “Yes, we have Covet.” and I said “Can you please check to see if you have anymore in Stock” and she had me on hold for about 5 minutes and came back and said “Thats funny, we've shipped them all back. I didn't even notice it was gone”

Oh, that's quite alright. There's plenty of Covets on Ebay. I just hope the bids don't get too high. For such a great fragrance they're super low, at the moment. Thanks for all your help. Do you love the fragrance also?

Yes, although it took a few samplings for it to grow on me. I do enjoy it, the drydown especially. I have office mates with scent sensitivities, I have to be careful. Covet “blooms” on me.

With Ebay, it's good to stock up before it becomes unavailable. Competitive bidding really drives the prices up.
