Guerlain Homme ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 30 May 2008 67 Comments

Guerlain Homme cologne for menGuerlain will launch Guerlain Homme, a new fragrance for men developed by perfumer Thierry Wasser (who was recently appointed in-house perfumer at Guerlain), this coming August:

The concept plays on the theme of man’s dual nature: human and animal.

The fragrance is firmly rooted in fresh olfactive territory, which according to Guerlain holds “great potential” for the men’s market…

Comme des Garcons Series 8: Energy C Lemon, Lime & Grapefruit ~ fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 29 May 2008 24 Comments

Comme des Garcons Series 8 Energy C fragrances

They're mighty busy over at Comme des Garçons this year: we've already had 888 & Monocle + Comme des Garçons Scent One: Hinoki, and we've still got a number of collaborative scents to come (with Daphne Guinness, H&M, Jun Takahashi & Stephen Jones). Things I wish I’d known as a newbie perfumista, part 1

Posted by Robin on 29 May 2008 124 Comments

This is really a random collection of thoughts that I started pulling together (at my usual glacial pace) back when Angela wrote Becoming a perfumista. The subject: what I wish I'd known when I started out with perfume. I'm amazed at how long it took me to start keeping my notes on the computer…

Blue Mercury in New York

Manhattan’s Upper West Side has never been known for its luxury shopping. It has long been famous for the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, for the Museum of Natural History, for its blocks of historic brownstones, and for Zabar’s, that peerless emporium of all things edible; but definitely not for boutiques that sell cosmetics and perfume. There have been some changes over the past year or two, however, and Blue Mercury is the latest beauty-oriented newcomer to the neighborhood.

Blue Mercury is a mini-chain of beauty boutiques with a primary emphasis on skincare; accordingly, you’ll see plenty of luxury skin and hair products stocking the shelves of the Manhattan shop, as well as familiar upscale cosmetics brands such as NARS and T. Leclerc. The sales associates are skincare consultants and makeup artists rather than fragrance experts, but the scent-related merchandise is accessible enough to encourage independent browsing and spritzing…
