A builder of fragrance

It is a sweaty day in February, and Ellena is taking stock of his myriad inspirations, at the charming 25-acre Kumarakom Lake Resort on the shores of Vembanad Lake. All the rooms are cobbled out of the region’s 200-year-old teak cottages (tharavadu). His face is all nose, a tapered sensor whose nostrils tingle and flare with the same emotion that plays in most people’s eyebrows. They flare as he talks about the truffles in his freezer, procured in a furtive daylong transaction with all the drama of a drug deal.

That’s right: two lazy polls in a row! That might be a Now Smell This first, but I’ve been inexplicably exhausted all this week, and can’t bring myself to finish another perfume review. This poll is for any of my fellow Janeites out there, and the rest of you will find it dull as nails so please come back tomorrow when Jessica will review the new Clean Well Hand Washes scented by Mandy Aftel of Aftelier.

So…I’m sure I’m not the only one who watched much of the recent Masterpiece Austen-fest on PBS. I enjoyed it immensely, not least because it was so much fun to sit on the couch eating chocolate and muttering under my breath at the “sexy” adaptations…

Ellie D Ellie Nuit fragranceEllie D has launched Ellie Nuit, a follow up to their debut fragrance, Ellie. Ellie Nuit is “a seductive scent that can be worn alone or layered with ladylike Ellie for a soft, alluring effect”:

Anticipating something smoky and vampy, we were startled by the intensely green opening, spiked with a mysterious shot of sap like sweetness. And then we were surprised again, by violets showing up in all their delicate glory. Exactly what sort of night was this going to be? Happily it turns out to be an enchanting one…
