Sensory pileup

All winter, when I should have been sleeping, I was reading perfume blogs. I would lose myself in a sybaritic rapture, the clock on my screen racing toward morning as I played a bait-and-switch game with my senses, taking in words that describe smells by calling on images, textures, music. The sensory pileup felt good. The blogs tell me that scents ring, sing and lash out in fury; they also cradle, buffer, withhold. I believe them.

Avon U by Ungaro fragrances

Avon and Emanuel Ungaro will collaborate to launch a new duo of fragrances, U by Ungaro for Her and U by Ungaro for Him, this coming August. The scents will be fronted by actress Reese Witherspoon.

Avon U by Ungaro For Her was developed by perfumers Jean Marc Chaillan and Loc Dong, and the “fresh, woody floral” includes notes of bergamot blossom, freesia, pepper blossom, acacia aura, lotus flower, osmanthus, iris, sandalwood and musk…

Eranthis flowersSpring is coming. There are days when the pure white bells of the snowdrops lift my spirits and assure me that this is true. And I am even more convinced now that I have seen the bright yellow sun of eranthis petals against the richly dark and still cold wet earth, their little green leaves spreading out like a fan around them. But it is still March, and it is still part lion! And even my skin confirms that winter has not disappeared — so I continue to take refuge in an array of body scrubs in the hopes of staving off that late winter sense of 'dried out' blues.

My latest favorite — not least for the reasonable price and eco-friendly approach — is the Hugo Naturals Brown Sugar & Kumquat Body Scrub. It contains brown sugar and emollients such as kukui oil, jojoba ester, kosher vegetable glycerin, and others, and offers a warm and cheering scent without being too overbearing or winter-like…
