Go wild, win a Vespa

Posted by Robin on 7 March 2008 6 Comments

In conjunction with the recent launch of Ralph Wild, the folks at Ralph Lauren are holding a "road trip" contest. You'll find the banner on the ralphwild website, where you'll be redirected to Facebook (sorry, you'll have to join Facebook if you're not already a member) to get the contest application. The contest ends 3/30, and the winner gets a brand new red Vespa and a helmet.

Mm, I wouldn't mind winning a red Vespa. Hope they don't make me wear RL Wild though. Off to check this out…

This sounds really great but let me post a word of warning…5 years ago I had a mild mid-life crisis and got myself a snazzy little red and white Vespa. Shades of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday swept through my deranged mind. I of course had never ridden a Vespa before in my life-Bah don't let that stop you I said. Well, my first time on the machine I crashed, flew over the front and essentially landed on my face! Broken nose, broken jaw in three places, crushed chin. I also broke, cracked or chipped EVERY SINGLE tooth in my mouth. My jaw was wired shut for 8 weeks, then the chin repair (I now sport a lovely plastic and titianium chin) failed and surgery had to be repeated, wired up for another 8 weeks. Then 1 1/2 years of dental work. I sold that “Little Italian Death Machine” so fast your head would have spun. Good things that came out of the whole experience: I did lose 18 pounds while I couldn't eat solid food for 4 months, I have a lovely set of nice white crowns in my mouth (hey if you're going to get fake teeth you might as well ask for whiter ones) and learning limits. LOL. So, go wild with your perfume buying, leave the Vespa riding to the professionals.

No purchase (or scent-wearing) necessary 🙂

Hey, the woman who rents us a beach house had a very similar accident. Wow — every single tooth — that is really amazing. Glad you're ok now. I'll see if I can confine my mild mid-life crisis to something safer.

Goodness! Though I wouldn't mind losing 10-18 pounds, I don't think I want to do it the way you did. And I'm fine with my teeth the way they are.

Don't they require a special license for scooter riding in your state? They do here in California; I'm fairly sure you even have to pass a driving test similar to those for motorcycles. Glad you ended up ok.

Here's to avoiding mid-life crises (I'll admit, I just turned forty).
