Juicy Couture Smell Me perfume adA lot has been made lately about how perfume sales have slowed despite the record number of new perfume releases and the millions of dollars spent marketing them. What has gone wrong? I have a few ideas about the reasons for lagging perfume sales and how to boost them. Perfume lovers, I welcome your input. Perfume flacks, pay attention.

Marc Jacobs Splash Sorbet 2008The Splash collection from Marc Jacobs acquires three new sorbet-inspired fragrances this month: Basil, Grapefruit and Pear.

Basil, in pale green, is a “musky cologne with green accents” developed by perfumer Andrea Lupo.

Grapefruit, also created by Lupo, is pink and evokes the “sparkling, moist scent of pink grapefruit”…

Kenzo Amour Indian Holi perfume

Amour Indian Holi is Kenzo’s new limited edition flanker for 2006’s Kenzo Amour fragrance. It’s named for the Indian Festival of Colors, and the original Amour juice has been reworked by perfumers Daphne Bugey and Olivier Cresp. Additions to the mix include rose, peony, and, wait for it……yep, pink pepper, the note du jour.

I liked the original Amour very much when I tried it in 2006, and I still do. I’ve been flirting with the idea of buying it and I may do so yet; wearing it today reminds me of what a perfect comfort scent it is for cool weather…
