Posted by Robin on 11 February 2008 17 Comments

"You don't see so much of a woman having just one signature scent anymore," she said adding that she knows one woman who owns more than 100 fragrances.

While that figure is extreme...

— "She" is Lindsey Pilcher, who works at Sephora in St. Louis. Quoted in Homework makes sense in buying scents in the St Louis Post-Dispatch.

Bedroom Soap ~ scented body products

Posted by Jessica on 10 February 2008 4 Comments

Bedroom SoapBedroom Soap belongs to an entire “Bedroom” line of products made by an Australian company called Dynamo House. Valentine's Day 2008I have always been struck by one passage about love in the critic and teacher John Bayley's memoir of his forty-year marriage to the novelist Iris Murdoch, Elegy for Iris. The two are on their honeymoon and people-watching. Bayley notes:

But this realization reassured me deeply… Such ignorance, such solitude! They suddenly seemed the best part of love and marriage. We were together because we were comforted and reassured by the solitariness each saw and was aware of in the other.

This is, of course, not the sort of all-consuming passion one normally yearns for as a young person…
