Saturday perfume news

Posted by Robin on 9 February 2008 2 Comments

I discovered it while walking in Paris. I passed a parfumerie where it was being sprayed through an open door. I stopped and bought it. I have been a devotee ever since.

— Annette Green, former president of the Fragrance Foundation, on Christian Dior Addict, in The sexiest scents for him and her in the Financial Post.

And so, when they discovered in their cellar, some boxes that contained about 100 old perfume bottles, some of which date back to the 1920s, they decided that it was only right to offer them to customers again. The catch is that you also have to purchase its Ultimate Bespoke Perfume Design service - with in-house perfumer Shelagh Foyle - at a cost of £2,500 to get one. Still, with five consultations over three months, an entirely unique blend, and 100ml of blended eau de parfum and five repeat orders, it's well worth it if you really want to send a cut-above message.

— Floris offers up a romantic gift idea. From Say it with a retro twist in the Financial Times.

That's a strange list for sure. YSL Opium is one of the worst smells ever. I'm sorry but it seems every person I ever encountered wearing Opium used way too much of it. Sort of “I can smell you from across the street”-stench. Maybe if someone applied a reasonable amount it would make me think again.

It is true — Opium is like Angel in that its overuse has led to a “love it or hate it” status.
