DSquared2 He Wood cologne

As I shopped for perfumes in Italy this past autumn, I searched for Dsquared2 He Wood; the fact that He Wood wouldn’t be available in the U.S. till the spring of 2008 made The Search intense — I wanted to smell He Wood before it arrived in the States. On the last day of my trip, I found a bottle of He Wood in a Venetian perfume shop and asked the shop owner if she had any samples of the fragrance. “No.” she said. I asked if there was a tester bottle. Flippantly, she explained: “It’s a new scent, Sir, so, no, no tester has been opened yet! It’s new!” Her “logic” was lost on me, and I left Venice and returned to the U.S. not knowing if He Wood was good, bad or boring.

In December, I discovered that He Wood is available in Canada, so off I went to finally sniff it…

Givenchy Ange ou Demon Tendre ~ new perfume

Givenchy Ange ou Demon fragranceComing this month from Givenchy, Ange ou Démon Tendre, a lighter and softer Eau de Toilette variation on 2006's Ange ou Démon Eau de Parfum.

The new fragrance is described as “more angel than demon”, and paired with the original, means there are now “two fragrances to appeal to two sides of women at two times of the day”…

Tauer Perfumes Incense extrême

Continuing with yesterday’s incense theme, today I’m wearing Incense extrême, the latest from indie niche line Tauer Perfumes. According to perfumer Andy Tauer, the ladies over at Perfume Posse wrote to him because they were curious what an incense fragrance from Tauer Perfumes would be like. Et voilà, here we have Incense extrême, and Incense rosé is expected to launch in March. What could be nicer than that?

When I first heard the name Incense extrême, I pictured a big-dark-gothic “whack you over the head” kind of incense fragrance, and while I’d have no complaints over such a thing, Tauer’s Incense extrême is something quite different…
