Bond no. 9 Andy Warhol Union Square ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 29 December 2007 11 Comments

Bond no 9 Andy Warhol Union Square perfumeBond no. 9's Andy Warhol Union Square, due for launch in March, will be the second of a projected series of twelve fragrances under an agreement with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts (the first was Andy Warhol Silver Factory). The packaging features...

...10 different bottles, each with a slightly different version of the flower print based on original silk screens of the "Flowers" print. For avid collectors and hard-core Warhol fanatics, the complete portfolio of 10 100-ml. bottles will be offered in a box for $1,500.

Andy Warhol Union Square was developed by perfumer Stephen Nilsen; the notes include lily of the valley, green stem, sweet blue freesia, white birch wood, amber and silver-cloud musk accords.

Bond no. 9 Andy Warhol Union Square will be available in 50 and 100 ml, concentration unknown. (via Women's Wear Daily)

Note: Union Square was the location of Andy Warhol's studio, known as The Factory, after it moved from its original location on 47th Street in 1968.

Can't imagine who'd want 1 litre of the same juice…on the other hand, might be a cost-effective way to get ten bottles for sharing? I'm a bit sad to see that the nose isn't Aurelian Gichard again. Silver Factory was superb.

A matching pure silk sawl and sarong would be nice. The colors are fine with me but I am not that much of a fan of designs from the seventies.

This is not something I would not want to have.

I would go for the miniature versions for a more decent price, but still ten of them is really too much.

Robin, So glad that you included the note about Union Square being the location of Warhol's second Factory space (33 Union Square West, to be exact!). Nowadays we get so distracted by Whole Foods, Barnes & Noble, etc. that it's easy to forget the area's former occupants, who included radicals of various kinds! 😉
Also glad to see that this fragrance will be available in the 50 ml size, since it sounds like something I might like. I'll just get one bottle, despite the lure of the “multiple”! (What a perfect marketing tool… the artist worked in multiples, so you should *buy* in multiples!) 😉

Yes, too bad they can't get AG to make all 12 in the series! His 2 for Bond are their best, I think.

The bottles will be sold separately — you don't have to buy all 10 versions.

J, you're so right about the perfect marketing tool!

What I want to know is whether the Andy Warhol scents will be included in those you can buy by the oz at the Bond boutiques — I'd like an oz of Silver Factory.

I would not know which bottle to choose.. and then the 10-bottledeal becomes more attractive.. very clever marketing indeed. 🙂

Thanks for the update Robin! I can't see past Silver Factory at the moment…loving it!! Is the base color of Union Square red? I keep thinking of West Side. Also, is Bond going to release the Warhols one after another or make a few non-Warhol fragrances between them? I'm not sure if it would make any difference in the scents whether they were attributed to Warhol or not, but the bottles would definately be unique! Thanks and Happy New Year!

I think the base color is red, but haven't seen the bottles in person. And sorry, no idea what their future release plans are! But somehow I assumed they'd fit Brooklyn in over the next year. Don't know if there is an AW-Brooklyn connection, but assumed that would be in the “regular” collection. We'll see.

A very Happy New Year to you!

I have smelled it but didn't love it, and didn't find it interesting enough to review. I'm not always fond of the light florals from Bond, although I know many people love them. You can probably find reviews at MakeupAlley.
