TJ Maxx report 12/07

Posted by Robin on 2 December 2007 22 Comments

Christian Lacroix Tumulte Homme fragranceI don't score very often at TJ Maxx. Last December I found a bottle of Guerlain's Anisia Bella, and that was it until yesterday, when I came upon Christian Lacroix Tumulte Homme, a fragrance that's been lingering on my wishlist ever since I first tried it back in back in 2005. If you love cedar and incense, do get to TJ Maxx. Tumulte Homme is even nicer than I remembered, and I paid only $14.99 for 50 ml.

While I was at it, I picked up a bottle of Jean Couturier's Coriandre ($7.99 for 30 ml). Coriandre was my signature scent way back in junior high school, and I've been studiously avoiding trying it again for fear I would not be pleased with whatever they've done to the formula in the meantime. For some reason, I couldn't resist yesterday. We'll see how that turns out...

Also on the shelves: Tommy Bahama Very Cool, Lancome Hypnose, Bvlgari's Green Tea & Red Tea fragrances, Escada Sentiment, Lacoste Touch of Spring, Cacharel Promesse & Noa Fleur, Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy, Calvin Klein Obsession Night, Tracy by Ellen Tracy, Cynthia Rowley, Rykiel Woman, J Lo Love at First Glow, lots of Elizabeth Taylor scents and tons and tons of gift sets.

I had the same luck at Marshall's and have been wearing both versions of Christian Lacroix Tumulte for the past week. Although the women's version is a bit overbearingly sweet/fruity at first, the drydown is quite nice on me.

Let's hear it for bargain fragrances…..if only Serge Lutens was carried at Marshall's or T.J. Maxx, my world would be complete….

I'll second that *hooray* for good bargain fragrances. What is even worse than Serge Lutens not being carried at T.J. Max or Marshalls, is that (Sarrasins, Muscs Kublai Kahn and Rose de Nuit) among many other Serge Lutens are not even available in the USA!!!

Looks like Bergdorf's now has a couple of them (not in bell jars, though, I don't think) — so maybe we'll get them all eventually!

Score! I bought two. The scent is better than I remembered (and perhaps too strong to spray). The bottle is amazingly beautiful.

Considered buying both of the bottles my TJ Maxx had in stock, decided I'd never use them up. But hated to leave one there!

Damn. After reading this, I hopped in the car. No luck. They didnt have them.
Im thinking of going to Marshall's today – its in the opposite direction.
Thats quite a find for T.J. Maxx.
Someone reported they had Heritage by Guerlain a few weeks ago so I hopped in the car and alas, no luck.
Why is this happening to me?

I can't tell you how many times I've heard of some great find at TJM and never found it — but in this case, lots of people at MUA (all over the country) have reported buying it, so I'd say it is worth it to keep trying. I did not see Heritage, unfortunately!

Im going to throw the blame on the local MUA people for buying them out. I like to place blame, what can I say? It makes me feel better…

Anyway, off to Marshalls now. Will let you know…

I went to my tj maxx today and found Comptoir sud pacifique vanille peach and vanille pitahaya 1.6oz for only $9.99. I almost jumped up and down, and grabbed as many as I could. These two scents were the only ones I saw. I also saw the Tumulte perfume you mentioned, the womens version. It was $14.99.

Forgot to say I like the Tumulte homme bottle more than the femme.

    No luck at Marshall's, either.

What does a boy have to do, I ask you…

I did score a bottle of Boucheron Trouble, though.

I went to a new TJ Maxx store in San Mateo, California today in search of this fragrance. I was in luck! Five or six bottles on the shelf and I bought two of them, UNSNIFFED, on the strength of your review. And what lovely stuff it is. There are still a couple of bottles left in San Mateo, but you'll have to look hard to find them. The perfume was in five or six different places and I almost left without finding it. I even asked a clerk and was told they didn't have it, so be prepared to look hard. But so worth it for the price! It smells like the inside of a cedar-lined coat closet filled with leather boots and your best, going-to-Catholic-incense-burning-church, wool coat. Marvelous!

So glad you like it – you were brave to buy TWO! This might be the perfume deal of the year.
