Dolce & Gabbana The One for Men ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 30 November 2007 33 Comments

Matthew McConaughey

Actor Matthew McConaughey (the sexiest man alive, or at least he was in 2005) will be the face of Dolce & Gabbana's upcoming fragrance The One For Men, set to launch next March. The One for Men follow's last year's The One for Women, and according to designer Stefano Gabbana, aims to be a "classic men's fragrance that would last for years and be the type of scent that women adore".

The spicy-woody fragrance will have notes of grapefruit, coriander, basil, cardamom, ginger, orange blossom, cedar, ambergris and tobacco.

Dolce & Gabbana The One for Men will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching grooming products. (via Women's Wear Daily)

Wish that Johnny Depp would be their face..

Or my classic favorite Marcello Mastroianni..

I would say such a thing would be beneath JD, but he does endorse products — Montblanc pens, I think? And maybe others.

He was the face of stetson black for men too. Maybe Johnny Depp will eventually endorse a men's cologne, I have seen him in some ads for watches a couple years back. He cleans up nicely!

Matthew McConaughey strikes me as a Muscs Khoubai Khan kind of man. He seems to be photographed topless and sweaty a lot!

With a name like “The One” belongs something deep or intense in the eyes. Nothing fake, something really deep.

Why is there hardly any gorgious black man in the ads?!

The actor (forgot his name) from Hotel Rwanda has a very attractive and intense face, sexy smile.

I just saw in the supermarket that Matt Damon is this year's SMA. I can see him being the face of a fragrance, too. (Have no idea if he ever has or not.) Something bland, unassuming, but pleasant enough…
Johnny Depp, on the other hand, should connect with Christopher Brosius to do something truly unique.

His name is Don Cheadle, and he's an American actor. He does have an interesting face. Just another example of how racist American society is, that there aren't any mainstream Black celebrities as the faces of fragrance. I would think that Denzle Washington would sell a lot of bottles, although he probably could not be bothered.

Agree on Denzel, he could sell anything.

Note to Kevin: Matthew McConaughey reportedly does not wear deodorant. Hard to imagine how Penelope Cruz could stand being with him filming in the Sahara. He is sexy and good-looking but always looks dirty. His hair is greasy and unkempt and he doesn't shave. Yuck! Maybe Leonardo Di Caprio, Gisele Bundchen's ex, would have been a better choice since she was in the women's version ad.

Glad you agree. 🙂 And I should not pick on Matt Damon so much. I heard in a blurb for the Bourne saga movies that “just as Sean Connery was born to plan James Bond, Matt Damon was born to play Jason Bourne”, and I have to concur (despite the pun).

And I also think “the One” is a really pretentious name for a scent.

I adore the Bourne movies! Generally hate action movies and avoid violent movies in general, but love the Bond series and the Bourne series, which are so over-the-top cartoonish they don't bother me at all. And Matt Damon is the perfect Bourne.

Didn't care for The One for women at all — sweet! — and I guess it is pretty pretentious, but at least they came up w/ a name at all. Hate eponymous scents (Gucci by Gucci) and everyone else is doing letters lately!

Will have to go look up what he did w/ Penelope Cruz. Not sure I've seen him in anything except the Bourne series.

Oops…duh, now I'm confusing MD and MM. Actually, not sure I've ever seen MM in anything at all, and not sure I'd recognize him on the street.

For one horrifying moment I thought that was a pic of Michael Bolton, and I couldn't imagine what a scent fronted by him would smell like. Oh no wait. Cheese. Velveeta, to be specific.

I find it impossible to take MM seriously, as a sexpot or otherwise, because he is famous here in Austin for being caught playing his bongo drums naked by some police (security guards?) who were summoned to his hotel room by angry, sleepless neighbors.
Stoned to the gills, too, I think.
He just seems like an unwashed, over-enthusiastic dog who lives at the beach…

Or Tyson or Seal or Terence Howard or Djimon Hounsou or…

George Clooney is The One. Seriously. Also Clive Owen or Jude Law would be fine choices for scent cover boys.
I also second the Johnny Depp idea, though recalling the Dirty Boy Kouros thread, he is one of the great unwashed so there is not a little bit of irony in that choice.
MM is hot but he can't top his hotness in A Time to Kill. Wooo.

Chris Rock ;). He has such a nice naughty smile and he puts the presumptious name of “The One” in a different perspective.

This one, Euphoria Intense & Davidoff Adventure all seem to be missing in action this spring…no idea why! I do think that with the dollar the way it is, the US market is no longer considered the priority it once was….we may be seeing fewer & fewer fragrances launch here first.
