J Lo Deseo by Jennifer Lopez ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 26 October 2007 53 Comments

Jennifer Lopez Deseo perfumeJennifer Lopez will launch her next fragrance, Deseo, this coming February.

Deseo is geared towards a "more sophisticated and mature" audience than her prior scents, and was created in collaboration with perfumers Ellen Molner and Jim Krivda.

With Deseo, the inspiration came from a combination of smells in my own garden. So, I called up my friends at Coty and asked them to come take a walk through my garden with me so they could experience it. It was late at night so there was kind of a dew in the air and I took them to an area where there are these beautiful geranium flowers, orange trees, lemon trees, and all this stuff mixing together that was making this beautiful smell.

The fragrance notes include watery bamboo leaves, yuzu, bergamot, freesia, star jasmine, pink geranium flower, orange blossom, mimosa, warm amber, oak moss, musk, sandalwood, cedar, patchouli and mineral accord. Samples of the fragrance are being distributed at J Lo concerts this fall.

Jennifer Lopez Deseo will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum and in matching Body Lotion. A matching scent for men is expected to launch next year. (via Women's Wear Daily)

I'm so glad I don't work for Coty. Late night calls from divas to come sniff their garden would not go over well with me. LOL! Who said “more sophisticated and mature”? I would think that would be a little insulting to the legions of “unsophisticated and immature” fans of her other scents!

Ok, enough snarkiness. The bottle is pretty and the notes don't sound bad at all. Will give it a sniff when it rolls out.

The “more sophisticated” remark came from Coty, not directly from J Lo, if that helps. And hey, Coty had better come over whenever she wants — you could argue that J Lo made them the celeb fragrance powerhouse they are today!

I was sorry to see the word “watery” but the rest of it sounds good.

Well, I love GLOW and her other fragrances have all been quite nice too (Apart from LOVE AT FIRST GLOW – overpowering but bland).

The notes in DESEO sound OK & the bottle is lovely. I will try it out.

Oh, I remember reading on Coty’s website that STILL was aimed at “an older audience”. I think it may have missed its target audience with its ‘celeb’ tag, and that’s why it was discontinued.

Glow is still my favorite of her scents, although I thought Miami Glow & Live were well done too. Didn't care for Love at First Glow or Glow After Dark. We'll see how Deseo goes…

I didn't know that about Still, how funny. Makes sense then that it's the only one of her scents I've liked, but it disappeared so quickly that I passed it on. I'm almost always in the *mature* age group that tactful marketers try to soften up with words like *sophicticated, confident, knows her own mind* etc. Codes for *old but still buying*, lol.

I do admire JLo's business sense, and these notes sounds interesting, although I'm with you on *watery*, Robin, and am hoping that the mineral accord is not ozone related.

What's scary is that when they say “older audience”, what they really mean is maybe…. 30-35 at most! Ha!

Yeah, it's a shame about STILL. I liked it as much as GLOW. I don't usually go for tea based scents, but it was nicely done.

I think I'll look for it on eBay…

A half-naked celebrity swinging in a hammock doesn't scream “sophisticated and mature” to me. Call me crazy. The notes do sound good. What's a mineral accord? Eau d'Geode?

p.s. Long-time reader, first-time poster. Keep up the great work, Robin.

It's not my idea of sophisticated & mature, either. But such is the current state of affairs.

Eau d'Geode has potential, especially when it comes to the design of the bottle.

I would'nt be surprised if even younger, like 25…I mean, that is already older than most of the celeb scents are aiming at!

Old but still buying, to the fragrance houses, means 30 and up, as near as I can tell. Nobody seems to be interested in marketing to women of 40, 50, 60…

Guessing that mineral accord is the same thing as what you find in the base of Terre d'Hermes — basically, smells like rocks.

Hi S, and welcome to commenting! A half-naked celebrity swinging in a hammock, sadly, is way more mature than some of the shenanigans we've seen this year, LOL…

And yes, I think Eau d'Geode is about right…as I said above, same “smells like warm rocks” thing that is in Terre d'Hermes.

    Surprising.

It's not heavy & on me it's not very floral. I'm not very good at describing scents so I'll just say it seems very 'green' & fresh. The drydown appears woody to me. I also get an impression of seasalt (?).

It was quite intriging because I didn't reqonize the scents.

I'll test it a few more times and may buy it.

Reminds me of Covert for some reason.

    Hi All,

I blind tested this fragrance so had none of the prejudices that may have influenced me.

It's a quite sweet, tropical scent and for me smells of tropical fruit (grapefruit and pineapple mainly)and coconut. It immediately reminded me of Tropiques from Lancome (the 2005 Limited Edition) which is similar in the heart to Deseo but has sharper, fruitier head.

The drydown is dry and woody but warm like a tweed blanket and there's a bit of aquatic note at the end, very subtle though.

I don't know any of JLo's previous scents, this to me smelled very professionally blended but playful at the same time. It doesn't at all shout 'celebrity' but certainly says 'young'. Not in age but in spirit.

    Hope this helped.

    Lillybee

YES! Sounds RIGHT up my Alley! Where do you live??? Is it somewhere in the U.S?? I spoke to my Macy's yesterday and they said it'll come at the end of March, but that can't be right. I'm sure the bottles are being shipped by now.

    Hi Jlove,

Sorry to disappoint you… I live in London, UK… This fragrance is all the rage here in the stores… and not necessarily amongst teens… tweenies. Have seen quite a few middle aged people going straight to the assistant and asking for the new JLo.

Over here the price is £21, £26 and £38 for 30 / 50 / 100 ml Eau de Parfum. Double that for dollars.

The actual price may be very different in the U.S though when it comes out.

In the UK this is an average celebrity fragrance cost, the designer house fragrances will start 20 – 30 % higher than this.

    Best,

    Lillybee

I'm actually fond of the scent. On me, it's very tropical – lots of smooth, creamy warmth, lots of coconut character, But I must say the gorgeous bottle is by far the best part.

Aww Robin. I'm lovin Deseo more and More each day! I think I like this one better than Miami Glow! Doesn't last very long though. I put some Can Can lotion on and it stayed with me ALLL day! I put some of this lotion on and it only stayed on for about 3 hours. I got a compliment today though, as usual 🙂

Hi, this is my first post on here. I tried a sample of this the other day and fell in love. I absolutely love tropical scents and it was just what i wanted. I got a strong smell of coconut even though it is not listed as an ingrediant. I personally love the smell of coconut it reminds me of holidays. After one smell in the store i came straight home and ordered it on the internet. I got a good deal. They are offering a free bag with it and i managed to find a discount code for £10 off. If anyone has tried the lotion can you tell me does it have shimmer in it or is it just a normal cream. The bottle was shimmery and i wanted to know if the lotion is aswell.

I have to say i have never had a smell of the over j lo fragrances even though i am a fan of her. I love deseo though.
