Tokyo at night

Posted by Robin on 11 October 2007 10 Comments

Great TV spot for Tokyo by Kenzo, directed by Patrick Guedj, Creative Director of Kenzo fragrances, and starring Brazilian model Michel Novello. Courtesy of YouTube.

The commercials for Flower by Kenzo are wonderful too — see this one and this.

Wonderful ad – except for the sily arm fling bit. Soundtrack brilliant too – Cinematic Orchestra maybe?
Shame I can't remember anything about the scent…

Isn't that a great ad? Do agree on the arm fling, but as a whole, one of the better commercials of the year, I think. Music is perfect, but have no idea what it is.

    I have the answer.

According to Kenzo, it's Broadcast. It is said to be an English band.

The song is Locusts from the lp The Future Crayon.

Very classy advertisements! I esp. like the second one for Flower by Kenzo. I just smelled Tokyo at Sephora the other day and remember liking it. The bottle for Tokyo looks so striking on Sephora's website but wasn't as compelling in person. I'm about as far from the Tokyo demographic as can be, lol, as I could easily be the mother of the guy in the ad, so to a younger male Tokyo might be just perfect, who knows.

The Flower ads are really great. Also watched a nice one for Kenzo Air. In general I'd say Kenzo does great ads, although I didn't care for the commercial for Amour.

Is it!!! It's one of my favourite bands ever! The Future Crayon is an EP with old b-sides and rare tracks like alternative versions of previously released songs – compared to an album it might be a bit raw. Their life shows are hauntingly good with impressive film projections in the background, 1920s aeshtetics. Their singer is one of the most stylish women in pop in my opinion. Her voice is beautiful, but they experiment a lot with instrumental songs (antique synthesizers). First listeners should try the album “The Noise Made By People”. (this is prob their greatest hit so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw5ztuhEat4)

For the scent, I quite liked it at first sniff. Pretty electric (to me) but not in an artificial way, if that makes sense… i had expected something more “radiating”.

She does have a lovely voice — reminds me of someone, but can't think of who. Thanks so much for the link!

Have a sample of the Tokyo but haven't had the chance to try it yet.

They filmed the Flowers' ad in my city, Buenos Aires, some years ago.

They brought thousands of red paper poppies and actually covered the whole street where it was filmed…

    It's not CGI!

BTW, Robin… I am at my last day in SF.. I got Clinique's Chemistry, which I can´t get in Argentina, and got to smell the Hermes exclusive line… I liked the Vetiver tonka, but the longevity was nil…

Also tried osmanthe yunnan… but it reminded me of Eau Parfumee au The Verte TOO MUCH. VERY similar specially on the drydown.

I must say I did not find them to be worthy of the 200u$s price tag at all.

Discovered a shop in Westfield Center that carries discontinued fragrances… I don´t remember the name but shouldn't be hard to find.

Also I tried the Tokio….nice but I think I need to try it again and on my skin.

I didn´t get to the Ineke shop…well next time will be 😉

How cool!! And hope your trip to SF has been wonderful! So sorry you did not like the Hermessences! The pricing, I admit, is kind of crazy, but I got the set of 15 ml bottles so was not so unhappy.
