Perfumers Jacques Cavallier and Olivier Cresp talk about the making of the new fragrance from Yves Saint Laurent, Elle YSL. Avid perfumistas will recognize the perfumers from press pictures, but oddly enough they are not identified until the film is over. As the film begins, Jacques Cavallier is on the left; Olivier Cresp on the right.

The commercial is really nicely done — much nicer than the Gucci. And love this film of Cavallier & Cresp — more houses should do these.

Looks like this fragrance is loaded with raw natural materials. How much does it retail for ?
Do you think? I wouldn't have assumed that at all — that is, just because they hold up a jar of vetiver root, I wouldn't assume the vetiver in Elle was natural as opposed to synthetic. But you could be right. The 50 ml is 64 euros, at any rate.
It sure looks so, zz, but I wouldn't take it all too seriously. I think it was merely to show some actual ingredients so viewers would get an idea of what notes it's composed of. You have to give it to them – they know their marketing. But nevertheless, this could be a very well made fragrance. Both perfumers appear honest and I'm looking forward to this release. Yes, it was a really nice touch to have all the materials in their “raw state”, and I liked that the men touched and smelled everything.
I think YSL Elle is geared towards a pretty young market, and they were wise to do video & launch in Second Life & all that. So yep, they know their marketing.
Vetiver and patchouli are definitely natural– there are no synthetic replacements for them (obviously, there are various derivatives, but not something that would replace the natural oil). Plus, they are not that expensive as far as raw materials go.
Peony and litchi, of course, are synthetic.

Nice video, unfortunately I can't say the same about the fragrance. I tested Elle last week and don't like it at all.
