Coleen by Coleen McLoughlin ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 15 August 2007 10 Comments

Coleen perfume by Coleen McLoughlin

Coleen McLoughlin, fiancée of Manchester United football star, Wayne Rooney, has launched her debut fragrance in the UK. The new scent, titled simply Coleen, was created by Robertet:

Coleen's fragrance is a soft citrus floral with stunning yet delicate notes. The top note of sweet orange is complimented by the aroma of lily of the valley and soft rose wrapped in a marine accord. Base notes of patchouli, musk, amber and cedar wood add depth and sensuality.

Coleen by Coleen McLoughlin is £19.95 for 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (quote via traffordcentre.co.uk, additional information via cosmeticsint.co.uk)

Ms. McLouglin reportedly has signed deals to star in a series of reality television shows and to write her autobiography (she is 21 years old). Am I crazy, or do the wives and girlfriends of sports personalities in the US not get anything like this kind of attention?

Honestly! She is never that thin in real life!! How she has managed to develop a whole career on the back of being the averagely pretty girlfriend (not even wife) of a talented-but-only-sometimes-fit-enough-to-play footballer who is not – believe me on this, all you in the US – an oil painting, and whose sexual infidelities are constantly in the papers…is beyond belief. At least Posh could hold a tune.

Well, that is exactly what I'm wondering…there seems to be a name for these women (WAGS) in the UK, and in the US, honestly, I've never heard of a single wife/girlfriend of a sports star. It seems to be a UK phenomenon (?)

She has sworn in several interviews that the photo is untouched, but of course most everyone says that.

Bottle and font face looks so much like Colours by Benetton which was everywhere in early 90s.

I think we can blame the cult (?) tv series 'Footballers' Wives' for riding, and creating, this apparent zeitgeist of the 'famous for being famous' eponymous women.
CM is classy spelled with a K, loveheart over the final i. Probably in glittery pink graffiti spray.

Ah, there is a show, perhaps that explains it! I shall have to investigate.

Let's dish the dirt on the presumably vile fragrance then, LOL! Has anyone tried it?

Not I, and I'm not likely to — I'm quite sure this won't launch in the US.

Oh no! Footballers Wives isn't a reality show about this lass or any of the real wives and girlfriends of footballers. It's much better than that: a frankly fabulous and rather hilarious melodramatic TV series in the style of Dynasty but with the kind of over-the-top plots you'd expect in Soap or Arrested Development. It revolves around the lives, loves, betrayals and shopping of the wives and girlfriends of a soccer team.Does it sum things up to say there's a character called Chardonnay?

In the UK there's a great interest in the soccer wives and girlfriends (WAGs) especially after the World Cup.They are known for dressing up and going out. They're the British version of Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie et al, who I also don't get (what do they DO?) They share a love of St Tropez fake tans, short skirts, tacky dressing, nightclubs and expensive handbags. Victoria Beckham is Queen Wag but seems to be trying to leave that behind – though in fairness, she'd never been known for dancing on tables in nightclubs.

I actually love over-the-top melodramas, so might watch it if it were on here. Chardonnay is perfect! But while I could be wrong, I dont' think such a show would make it here — the attitude towards sports is too different.

And you're absolutely right, the fame of Paris Hilton et. al. is equally mysterious. As near as I can tell, she is famous for being rich & famous — although I actually think her apparent idiocy is also a factor.
