Bond no. 9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 18 July 2007 11 Comments

Bond no. 9 Andy Warhol Silver FactoryBond no. 9 has signed an agreement with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to develop a line of unisex fragrances under the Andy Warhol name. The first of the set is Andy Warhol Silver Factory, due for launch in December and...

...inspired by Warhol's original working studio in the Sixties, known for its aluminum-foil walls. Created by Aurelien Guichard from Givaudan, Silver Factory is categorized as an oriental perfume concentrate.

Bond no. 9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory will be exclusive to Saks and the Bond no. 9 boutiques, and will be $230 for 100 ml. (via Women's Wear Daily)

Update: more about the Andy Warhol Silver Factory fragrance, via Bond no. 9 press release:

We conceived of Silver Factory as a smooth, smoky, spicy blend of interlacing incense (a key scent of the ‘60s), wood resin, and syrupy, seductive amber. But just to complicate things, we gave it a heart of jasmine, iris, and violet—a scent that Warhol was especially fond of. These slightly dissonant florals combine to evoke a metallic effect—that of warmed-up, molten silver, And then, for the merest hint of coolness, we threw in a handful of cedarwood.

Additional notes include bergamot, grapefruit and lavender.

You can read more about The Silver Factory at Wikipedia.

Other recent releases from Bond no. 9: Coney Island, Saks Fifth Avenue For Him & For Her.

True! I think the Saks scents launch in September, then this follows at Xmas. But the Saks (obviously) will be in really limited distribution. Not sure Bond will even have them at their own stores (?)

I have to say that I like the idea of fragrances associated with famous artists a lot more than I do “celebrity” fragrances, although I am not sure what a Warhol fragrance would have to smell like to really do him justice in my mind. Oooh! – I just read on Wikipedia that a bottle of Estee Lauder's Beautiful was placed in Warhol's coffin at his funeral.

Gosh….this came out of nowhere, along with the Saks for Him and Her. What happened to the rumored Brooklyn, Astor Place and Union Square? I suppose they are on hold for next year. Great bottle on Silver Factory! I hope they can pull it off–unlike the “flaming sunburst” I was expecting to find on my Fire Island bottle. My bet is that it will be a sticker like the Bleecker Street bottle.

Agreed, and what a cool fact about AW, will have to go read Wikipedia.

You know, there already was an Andy Warhol fragrance line, but I don't know much about it.

Brooklyn is still supposedly the next “neighborhood” fragrance to launch, and it is rumored to be called “Just Brooklyn” but who knows.

So appropo for Andy, the Beautiful E.Lauder bottle placed with him. He so loved the classics immensely I read in bio of him long ago.

p.s. Do you suppose they'll get threatened with a lawsuit by Campbell's for that bottle? (You never know in these litigious times…)

    The bottle does look sharp!

Since Bond is working in cooperation with the Warhol Foundation, the Campbell's issue has probably already been managed. The Warhol Foundation itself is notoriously litigious (and I've always wondered what it thought of Bond's Warhol-inspired West Side bottle!), so it knows how to protect itself and its collaborators. 🙂

No comment on the legal issues, since I know nothing — but it is a great bottle. I do hope that isn't a sticker though!
