Parfumerie Generale Cadjmere ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 9 July 2007 19 Comments

Parfumerie Generale Cadjmere perfumeParfumerie Generale will launch Cadjmere, a new fragrance, this coming September. The scent is described as "exotic woody powdery":

A delicate and refined meeting of precious Rosewood, floral and spicy, with soft and warm Sandalwood… A powdery harmony, a perfume tender and caressing like a Kashmir shawl. Myrtle twigs, aromatic sap, Kenyan cypress resin, Sandalwood bark, Ambrette seeds and Vanilla.

Parfumerie Generale Cadjmere will be available in 50 or 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (via boutique-parfumerie-generale)

Could be good., though I admit I haven't been bowled over by the PG scents I've tried thus far. Hey, I should call you and see if you can meet us in Strasburg for dinner this week!
I bought a bottle of Marc Jacob's Cucumber for the summer and like it a lot! The AA Mandarine Basilic was too herby and straw-smelling for moi, but the MJ Orange was lovely.

I on the other hand have been completely wowed by this line. I would say this is fast becoming my favorite frag house. So modern, so interesting. I can't wait to smell this one, the notes sound brilliant. I just wish someone here in the states would start carrying their candles. They are to die for! Now if only they would do matching bath and body prouducts so I could bathe in my Musc Maori 😉

L, I like the PG line, but many of them are just too sweet for me, and other than Matale, I think of many of them as fall/winter scents for that reason.

You are VERY near my neck of the woods — do call if only to tell me what on earth you're doing in Strasburg?

Are the candles wonderful? Good to know. And agree on MM, although I'll take a body cream 🙂

They had me until “powdery” — now I'll have to wait for a sample & see. Like the sound of the notes otherwise though!

When I first read “exotic woody powdery” I immediately thought they are about to create their own Bois de Farine, which in my opinion is all of the above. That fragrance is not really one I crave, but it still haunts me every now and then because of it's freakyish nature. But when I read the notes (well, what got stuck in my mind was rose- and sandalwood) I got the impression they might actually do their own woody powdery creation, and not a version on an existing theme.
So far I've only tried one PG fragrance, Aomaissai, and that one was exactly “too sweet” and quite powdery. And greenish herbal. Kind of weird actually. Hmm, still have my hopes up on that rosewood!

Ehum, kind of unclear, that post.. cough cough. I did of course mean a version of an already existing fragrance, and not theme like I wrote. Adding to that theme of fragrances they do I guess…

Quite a few of them are too sweet for me, but the “kind of weird” is what keeps me trying them — they are unusual scents, and sort of outside of the traditional niche category. And I do really like a few of them.

I adore Bois Farine, but guessing this will be a denser, sweeter scent.

I've smelled this one and it's a quiet knockout if you like rich, mellow, woody skin scents. (At least that's my initial impression from one generous squirt on my wrist at The Perfume Shoppe here in Vancouver. They've got a sample bottle and they're taking orders.) I thought it was gorgeous. My personal fragrance lexicon would come up with “creamy” as opposed to powdery, which might alleviate some concerns on that score. However, my nose is quite consistently unreliable — I smell something and I get all emotional, when I ought to be more analytical — so I hope everyone gets a chance to try this for themselves because I may well be wrong. It certainly was causing a very pleasant stir at the store, and it was swarming with niche fragrance addicts. . .

Ah, thanks so much for commenting! Creamy is more appealing than powdery to me, although there are actually quite a few powdery scents that I do like. Rich, mellow & woody all sounds good too, so will have to try it!

Ditto on the thanks! and ditto on the creamy vs. powdery thing. Waaaay back when I first got into fragrance as a precocious and obsessive compulsive teen, powder was a kind of holy grail for me. I was mad about the stuff. Do you remember Casaque? Oh, God, that was pure heaven to my young nostrils. And that reminds me of the French minis that were sold in the early seventies: collections with Le de Givenchy, Shocking. . .I'm getting all nostalgic now, so I better stop!! I hope you get to smell Cadjmere soon. Now I'm dying to know what you think. I must go back myself for another whoosht!!

Sounds like you like powder way more than I do — for me, liking a powdery scent is the exception rather than the rule 🙂

Gosh, so sorry, I truly misled you!!! Mea culpa. I think I was reading your comment that you liked quite a number of powdery scents and was, in my people-pleasing way, trying far too hard to relate!!!!! My powder-seeking days are decades behind me, actually. I'm all over the place in reality, and I've got enough frags that I can easily match a mood. I DO like a good wood-based scent, not too sweet, or a beautifully balanced. . . heck, to be honest, I just don't know anymore. Can't pigeon-hole myself these days. The more I learn and expose myself to, the less I can say for sure what I like best. I wonder if that's a common experience???? It's hot here in Vancouver so I've pulled out all the fresh, cool scents I own, and some steamy tropical ones, too. I'm shy to mention names, because even now rattling around in my head they sound very commercial and un-hip. Come fall, though, with some money to spend, I hope to follow some of the interesting scents you mention as favourites of yours — at least, the ones I can find here in Vancouver. Mail-order is challenging as we have a very strict Canada Customs filter and pay through the nose on duty. Do you have any summery scents to recommend that might be easy to track down? I'd love any suggestions. . .

Don't be shy to mention names, seriously — “hip” doesn't matter when it comes to perfumes. Some of my favorite easily found summer scents: Dior Eau Sauvage, Eau de Guerlain, Chanel Cristalle EdT, Bvlgari Green Tea.

Thanks, R! What an appealing — and find-able! — list of summery scents. Useful too; I smell what you're cooking, as they say!!! I'm wearing Un Jardin sur le Nil on this warm Vancouver morning under the clearest blue skies, and am thoroughly transported. Hope you're enjoying the summer in your neck of the woods.

Casaque is being made again. http://www.irmashorell.com

The company got hold of perfume formula journals from a few perfumes from the 50's thru the 70's. I have ordered Casaque from them for a few years now and I love it! When I wore it in the 70's–I partied just a bit 😉 at the clubs-a few times-guys came up and asked what scent I was wearing. The company also has 'My Sin' – 'Tuvache' (I think Jungle Gardenia) and others. They use the best ingredients and are very protective of the perfume making process. Therefore-they sell to only a select few boutiques and on their website. BTW I originally bought Casaque from the pharmacy section of a market-lol-wore it for a few years and it disappeared. I was soooo disappointed. Internet arrived and I Googled Casaque—-OMG! there it was. Skeptically I requested some samples. It was amazing-freshly made–good price-the memories it brought back. Guys still ask when I wear it–young and old. My husband said “It smells like you” I tend toward tuberose-gardenia-pikake-plumeria type flowery scents or very fresh like after a shower also some green scents. But–most everyone associates me with Casaque-Marc Jacobs-Fracas-Kate Spade (Loooove Kate Spade only second to my Casaque). Love this website.

Thanks! I know of the company but have never smelled Casaque, new or old. Will have to see if I can get a sample. Hope Irma Shorell will start getting to work on Donna Karan Black Cashmere & a few other recent goners.
