Guerlain Quand Vient La Pluie ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 12 June 2007 16 Comments

Guerlain Quand Vient La Pluie perfumeGuerlain has launched Quand Vient La Pluie, a new fragrance developed by perfumer Thierry Wasser in collaboration with Sylvaine Delacourte. Inspired by the smell of nature after the rain, the scent includes notes of heliotrope, violet, rosemary, sambac jasmine, and "un soupçon" of praline.

The bottle, by Serge Mansau, is shaped like a raindrop and rests on a "base etched with the veins of a leaf" and holds 7.5 ml. A 50 ml refill bottle is included in the €280 price. The luxury, limited edition version is €1800, and includes Swarovski crystals and a 490 ml refill bottle. (image and first quote via aufeminin, second quote and additional information via osmoz)

I *love* the inkwell look of that bottle. Am hoping, though, that at some point they release it in just a boring, regular bottle for a gentler price.

Somehow I doubt it — this looks like another bid at the luxury market. Can't decide if I love the bottle or not. Hard to make it out clearly from the picture!

The bottle looks extraordinary. And totally impractical

'Inspired by the smell of nature after the rain' – hmmm… isn't there already a Guerlain scent called Après l'Ondée that is dot dot dot?

    What's praline doing there? *puzzled*

After reading the name (“When the rain comes”) and the ingredients, my first thought was Apres L'Ondee, too. And they even have the gumption to say that QVLP is “inspired by the smell of nature after the rain”, which , of course, is exactly what Apres is meant to be, and, thrillingly, is.
But that praline! is it a stab at modernizing Apres for a more modern taste? And what else have they chucked in there? Hedione? Calone?
I bet there's lychee in it!

Wet praline? Ewwwww. Someone wake me from my fruity-floral nightmare when it comes into my pricer ange.

Praline? I'm trying to be polite because it's Guerlain, but praline?

    Beautiful bottle, btw.

I hope this doesn't mean that Guerlain has an evil plot to phase out Apres L'Ondee altogether! Praline? Just no.

Après l'Ondée was unavailable for years and years when I was younger. It was one of those mythical perfumes one had heard about but could never try.

Would like to see it in person — can't tell if I like it or not.

    Praline is everywhere 🙂

Lychee, LOL! At these prices, there had better not be lychee.

Who knows, maybe it's wonderful. I haven't even smelled Iris Ganache yet.

I didn't know that — actually assumed it was one of the few that was never “out of print”.

I personally thought Insolence was Guerlain's attempt to update Apres L'Ondee.
