Christian Dior Eau Sauvage Fraicheur Cuir, M Micallef Note Vanillee ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 16 May 2007 18 Comments

Christian Dior Eau Sauvage Fraîcheur Cuir cologneChristian Dior has introduced a limited edition variation on their iconic men's fragrance Eau Sauvage. Eau Sauvage Fraîcheur Cuir is described as a spicier scent, with the original blend of lemon and hedione accented by cedar and "an amber-leather note that is ‘masculine, but not animal-like’". The new cologne was created by perfumer Francois Demachy.

Christian Dior Eau Sauvage Fraîcheur Cuir will debut in June, and will be sold in 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (quote via osmoz, additional information via lifestyle.msn.be.com)

Other recent releases from Christian Dior: Dior Homme Cologne, Fahrenheit 32, Dior Addict 2 Summer Peonies, Miss Dior Cherie Eau de Toilette.

M Micallef Note Vanillee perfumeParfums M Micallef has launched Les Notes, a new range to celebrate their 10th anniversary. The first fragrance in the projected series is Note Vanillée:

The new Perfume of Parfums M. Micallef is like a Symphony of a grand perfume Orchestra.

At first there are the Mandarin’s and Hesperide. The heart note is based on Jasmine and valuable Flowers. These will create the very special Perfume Note of this Scent.

Santal, Amber, Bourbon-Vanilla, Cognac and Rum will round off the whole composition.

M Micallef Note Vanillée is available in 75 ml Eau de Parfum for €117, and is packaged with a "special music CD". Upcoming fragrances in the series include Ambrée and Poudrée. (via M Micallef)

I so love the original Eau Sauvage! Wore it for a while, years ago. Must sniff this version at some point. Sounds interesting.

    Oh my God!!!

A limited edition of Eau Sauvage????

    Behold! the end is nigh!

Although it does pick my curiosity!!!

The extreme version was my signature scent for a long time.

This new Eau sauvage does sound wonderful: I love both of the other versions (original and extreme). So will be anxious to try it! Thanks!

And I found Fahrnheit 32 nice and pleasant (just reviewed it today) but on a different route altogether: effeminate. But this might be good for us 😉

I love Eau Sauvage! I'm usually annoyed by flankers, but this one…they had me at amber-leather. Must try it!

I'll try this out too. like helg, I found Fahrenheit 32 to be remarkably feminine, and actually a little suffocating when it wasn't making me think, 'so what's with all this orange blossom?'

I still wear Eau Sauvage, mostly in the summer. This one does sound interesting, but sometimes it is hard to live up to the original if you really adore it.

    LOL!

I have still never tried the Extreme, and don't ever see it anywhere. Love the original though.

See Leopoldo's comment below, I guess feminine is the big thing in masculines this year!

Exactly what I was thinking–first Les Fleurs du Male and now this? Can it be a sea change in the world of men's perfumery?

    Nah. It's just a coincidence.

I love Eau Sauvage and I REALLY love Eau Sauvage Extreme (which isn't just a stronger version of the original–it's an entirely different scent), and the fact is that if you take either of them, or anything that's remotely as good as any of them, and then add amber and leather…well, I am just going to have to buy that the second I see it and there's no two ways about it, dammit.

It probably is a coincidence, but if they both sell like gangbusters it will be interesting to see how many more follow.

And I'm starting to think I need to order Eau Sauvage Extreme unsniffed!

I don't see anyone else asking, so I will.

Re: the notes in Parfums M Micallef’s Note Vanillée: what are “valuable flowers”?

    Thank you,

I'm afraid I have no idea, but Micallef has very nice customer service so perhaps they would give you more detailed notes if you emailed them.

You might want to read the reviews on Basenotes first (a lot of people dislike it), but for what it's worth, I think it's stunning. Herbaceous top notes and a quick descent into an ink-dark heart with a woody, almost chypre base. It comes in a black version of the original's bottle, and rightly so: it's outstandingly dark and moody, a snarling thunderstorm after Eau Sauvage's sunny day. I think you'll either love it or hate it.

Just noticed that Kevin commented under my original review of Eau Sauvage to say he didn't like the Extreme. So perhaps it is a love it or hate it. Drat, felt like buying something today 😉

Anyway will certainly hunt down a sample.

I wore this to death in my youth, one of the best masculines created for Dior in my humble opinion. I recently won a 100 ml. bottle @ auction for $40 and I have to say it’s just as good now as it was all those years ago.
