CK IN2U launches in Second Life ~ perfume in the news

Posted by Robin on 21 March 2007 4 Comments

Calvin Klein's CK IN2U is the first fragrance to launch in the virtual world Second Life:

Residents and visitors...will be able to visit the ck IN2U site to pick up virtual bottles of the new ck fragrances, connect with other in-world virtual partners by spraying them with fizzing fragrance bubbles to initiate dialogue - and use specially modified ck graffiti bottles to express themselves and whatever they or their friends are 'in 2'. UK consumers who want a sniff of the real thing will be able to click through to the www.ckin2u.com to request a free 'real world' sample.

The CK IN2U site is located on Avalon. (via prnewswire).

Robin, reading that blurb made me age about 40 years. What is the point of launching a fragrance in a virtual world in which one can not *smell*???

Well, I'm pretty old myself, LOL…I keep meaning to join Second Life but never have the time or energy. But there are all sorts of commercial & business entities there now…you can buy clothes for your avatar, so I guess why not “perfume”? Dunno. On the one hand, it is all pointless, on the other, well, I suppose maybe it is “fun”, and more obviously, it is yet another way for companies to advertise their products and to reach people who aren't reading the fashion mags or watching TV.

Oh my goodness. I did not even realize that Second Life was an actual virtual place. I thought it was a name made up by CK for their fake universe of fizzy bubbles and tagging.

LOL – no! Although CK has also launched its own online “space”:

Although so far, not much going on there except some short films.
