Tepid fruit compote

Posted by Robin on 12 March 2007 4 Comments

If this is a fantasy, then let me have a dreamless sleep. It is cloyingly sweet. The fruity accords combined with the flowers make it sickly. Without wanting to turn people against me - who do these scents appeal to? It's like tepid fruit compote.

— Roja Dove, of the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie in Harrods, on Britney Spears' Midnight Fantasy, quoted in today's Daily Mail.

Because I have a ton of work to do and should be focusing on it and nothing else, I went to read that whole article. Perfect for procrastinating! How bizarre that the reporter is actually named Alice Smellie. Oh, and the panel consisted of two women and one man? Assumed Alex was a woman till he mentioned that he likes Paris' picture because he's a man (w/ bad taste). I definitely felt most in sync w/ Roja's answers. Hannah is a fragrance marketer's dream – hard to displease her. But I loved what she said about Curious:

If you met a man in a bar, you'd get chewed on, not kissed.

I feel that way about a majority of the scents in the mainstream market right now. Oh, and that pic of Britney was scary – had a vague look of Boy George on a bad makeup day.

LOL — your work habits are very similar to mine! Didn't even notice the name of the author though, that is classic. And yes, that picture was horrid — poor, poor Britney.
