John Galliano to launch a fragrance in 2008

Posted by Robin on 2 March 2007 16 Comments

John Galliano

John Galliano, who maintains his own fashion house in addition to his duties as the women's designer at Christian Dior, will launch a fragrance under his own brand name in the fall of 2008. Selective Beauty, which holds the license for the John Galliano fragrance, promises "to capture Galliano's DNA in scent form". (via Women's Wear Daily)

I am hoping that means Essence of John Galliano, not Miss Dior Cherie. We shall have to wait and see.

Hmm…If, for his own brand, he creates something interesting and unique, a la Essence, I'll be mighty upset on behalf of Dior who is now stuck with that sickly-sweet Cherie thingie. Hrmph.

Isn't the Cherie monster selling horribly well, though? A mystery to me; I can only assume some people are anosmic to syrup. I'd be thrilled if something along the lines of the Essence were to come out in a more mass-market way…just hope that he calls it something that doesn't sound like he's squeezed his zits into a bottle (sorry, I really struggle with that name).

LOL — one way of looking at it!

Oh, thanks so much for that mental picture, LOL!

I assume Miss Dior Cherie sells like gangbusters. Just don't see the point in him repeating the idea under his own name…he ought to do something more interesting. Not what you mentioned, though 🙂

I'd be tickled if he simply took the Diptyque candle and translated that into jus…

THAT would put even J. Statevicius [?spelling ?] to shame.

What DOES Mr. Galliano smell like, anyhoo ?

And do I really want to smell like him ?

BTW- Dior Homme smelled pretty decent when I sniffed it last week. Better than I'd hoped.

Me too…I always hoped they'd turn the room spray into a real fragrance.

Dior Homme isn't a personal favorite, but it is a great scent. The men's line at Dior under Hedi Slimane seems to have a completely different aesthetic than the women's under Galliano, and that follows through to the fragrance as well IMHO.

Nice hair, though. Wouldn't mind a barnet like that myself. Could live without the moustache, of course.

Alright I'm there. I've been a JG fan, once again only vicariously through fashion magazines and TV snippets, of course. His couture show is always nutty monstrous, but in such a way that's never been seen before. It always looks NICE and BAD, unlike the JPGaultier which sometime can just be BAD. So, here's hoping that some of that weird Dali channeling channels itself to something unique, BADass but NICE. If it's a fruity floral I'm just going to kill myself. Vicariously if possible.

He cracks me up…love reading the Manolo entried on the “funky little fashion troll” 🙂

Seems like if he does a fruity floral, HE should have to die. Only fair!

The hair looks like Sarah Jessica Parker Circa 1998, so perhaps it will be a “Lovely” clone?

I am really clueless on this one, as I cannot imagine what does Galliano smells like!

MD Cherie is really sweet, but hey J'Adore was something that for me smelled like overpowering sweetness and is one of their top sellers(!)

That pic is so gay! Is that Galliano ?

I had heard rumors about the Essence of John Galliano being pulled from the shelves because Galliano was planning to launch his own line of fragrances.

The Galliano! I love the Manolo as well, also when Manolo is talking about the Lagerfeld, which has made me laugh hard enough to .. well, never mind.

I have hopes for this fragrance, based largely on the fabulosity of the smoky Galliano thang, so maybe I'm kidding myself. Did he have much/anything to do with that, really? You probably know.

Supposedly JG was a long time Diptyque customer and actually initiated the project, but hey, who knows?

And yes, Manolo is even funnier about “The Evil One” than he is about the “Funky Little Fashion Troll”.

Yes, that is Galliano — and hope you're wrong about the Diptyque! It is still listed on their website, not that it means anything.
