Le Labo Rose 31 wins Best Fragrance from Wallpaper magazine, & other perfume news

Posted by Robin on 7 February 2007 2 Comments

Rose 31 is among the men's collection and bravely interprets a central note that had become dated and almost uniquely associated with women. Whether it's taken up by men or women, it remains a great modern interpretation of the rose.

— from Wallpaper magazine's 2007 Design Awards, which honor Le Labo Rose 31 with their best fragrance award. They have very good taste over at Wallpaper (last year's winner was Ormonde Jayne Isfarkand, another one of my favorites).

I used to like light, clean-smelling, marine scents--whatever was offered in the mass market--but now I have more of a love of the classics...

She got her hands on bottle 728 of the 1,000-bottle limited reissue of Hermes' 1955 fragrance Doblis, and once paid $900 for couture designer Shalini Kumar's fragrance Shalini in a Lalique crystal bottle.

— the first statement was made by Ina Prouty of Aromascope; the second is about Patty Geissler of Perfume Posse. Check them out in last Sunday's Chicago Tribune!

If you put emotions and pleasure into the things that you make, I think people can feel it and it will sell. That was how Flower was made. With Flower, we had hoped it would be good but we didn’t think it would have the success that it did. It’s amazing for a small brand like Kenzo to be in the top three (perfume brands) in France, that is a surprise.

— Patrick Guedj, the Creative Director of Kenzo Parfums, in an interesting article in The Star about the development of Kenzo's latest release, Kenzo Amour.

Go Kenzo! I'm really starting to like them for making unique fragrances. I have L'EauParKenzo Pour homme, which is truly a very floral, lemony scent—for men! Very unique. ^_^

I think the Kenzo line does a great job….I really liked Flower Oriental and the newer Amour.
