Parfums de Nicolai Maharanih ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 26 January 2007 7 Comments

Parfums de Nicolai Maharanih fragranceThe latest fragrance release from Parfums de Nicolaï is Maharanih:

This elegant, both brisk and sensual perfume is an aromatic woody amber perfume suffused with the freshness of lavender and the luminosity of bitter orange radiating through the sweet warmth of the amber and spices. A perfume of contrasts, it evokes at first the heat of the sun naturally enhancing the aromas of an Indian garden à la Shalimar, even suggesting decay and indolic sensuality, before a breeze gently caressing the murmuring fountains, the tranquil orange groves and the herbs, comes cooling down the sensations. There are also delectable and subtle gourmand undertones of dark chocolate and bergamot-scented Earl Grey tea of which one would love to take a refreshing sip.

The notes include bitter orange, geranium, lavender, cinnamon, sandalwood, and amber. Maharanih is available now at luckyscent and is $80 for 100 ml of Eau de Parfum.

Judging from the name and the notes, this sounds like a women's version of Maharadjah. Do you know if that was the intent? I would love Maharadjah if the lavender weren't so strong; I'm wondering about the prominence of the lavender in this one.

I REALLY like the PdN line … but why, oh WHY, isn't there a redesign of the labels? I don't mind the bottle shape but the labels are 2nd class.

Thank you Kevin for your comment.

Sorry for the emphatic tone, it's presidential campaign here in Paris 😉

I assume so, as they also share a few notes in addition to the name. I dislike Maharadjah because of the lavender, and assuming this one might not suit me either.

You are both right, but another way to look at it is that $80 for 100 ml is incredibly reasonable these days for an imported niche. I'd hate to see her repackage and then raise prices, which is what all the other lines seem to do!

It almost seems like the reverse of one of my favourites, Nicolai Pour Homme, which goes cool and then warm.

I thought I had tried very nearly every PdN scent, but now realizing that I missed Pour Homme. Will have to get a sample!
