Bandit by Robert Piguet ~ fragrance review

Bandit was the first fragrance release from Parisian fashion designer Robert Piguet. The leather chypre was created by perfumer Germaine Cellier, and launched on “the couture runway in 1944 with models sporting villain masks, brandishing toy revolvers and knives” (via Fashion Fragrances and Cosmetics). Bandit was eventually discontinued, then was re-launched in 1999 in a new formulation created by perfumer Delphine Lebeau of Givaudan. The notes include neroli, orange, ylang ylang, galbanum, jasmine, tuberose, rose, carnation, leather, vetiver, oakmoss, patchouli and musk.

Guy Robert called Bandit a beautiful but brutal perfume, and that is as apt a description as any: Bandit is not a fragrance for the timid…

Institut Tres Bien Tres Russe fragranceTo celebrate the 100th anniversary of Cologne A La Russe, Institut Très Bien will launch a new parfum version, Très Russe, in November.

Très Russe was created by perfumer Pierre Bourdon, and is described as having deeper almond and oriental notes. Notes include bergamot, limette, almond, vanilla, musk, iris, orange blossom, lavender…

Notes on New York and Perfume

Aedes perfume storeLast week I spent a few days in New York City on the way to a friend’s wedding. (By the way, this was the friend for whom I asked your help choosing a wedding fragrance. She ended up wearing Chergui.) What follows is grab bag of mostly perfume-related information I picked up:

Creed’s Angelique Encens, which you can buy at Bergdorf Goodman, was not only Marlene Dietrich’s signature scent, it is also a favorite of Marie Osmond.

Robert, one of only four people in the world trained to present JAR fragrances, can tell you how to make an 8-minute martini that is supposed to be terrific. He also knows where to score a good bottle of scotch.

The Guerlain counter at Bergdorf’s stocks Vega, Philtre d’Amour, Liu, Derby, Plus Que Jamais, Attrape Coeur, and the Arts ets Matières line. Plus, you can try the parfum versions of Vol de Nuit, Shalimar, Mitsouko, and Chamade, among others…
