There is a profile on Serge Lutens, including a brief interview, on the osmoz site:

The raw ingredients are alive, they move around and create surprises. You have to be ready to guide the fragrance in an unconscious way.

And in other news, the latest smell research results:

Canadian researchers have determined that most people's noses appear to pick up scents better when they are sitting or standing compared to when they're reclining.

Another Friday with no perfume review…

I am doing some major behind-the-scenes programming on Now Smell This, so once again, no perfume review. I'll be back tomorrow with more new fragrance announcements, and will post the news on Monday, but I might not manage a review until Tuesday when I hope to cover the lovely new perfume from Annick Goutal, Songes. Have a great weekend!

Sean "Diddy" Combs defends his recent fragrance ad (the one that caused all the hoopla) in USA Today. Read a perfume lover's take on the controversy on Slap of the Day.

Meanwhile, Jessica Simpson's Dessert Beauty fragrance line is being sued for the second time:

This time a Los Angeles woman has issued the US singer and actress with a federal lawsuit claiming that Simpson and her business partners, have stolen the cosmetics brand that she patented back in 1989, according to a report in the New York Post.

Van Cleef & Arpels First Love, Marc Jacobs Splash Rain, Grass & Cotton and more new fragrances

Van Cleef & Arpels First Love perfumeVan Cleef & Arpels will launch First Love in April:

The women’s scent is a floral oriental developed by Christophe Raynaud of Symrise. Its formula is composed of a blend of grain of paradise, osmanthus and mandarin at the top, and notes of peony, ylang-ylang and orchid at the heart. Notes of amber crystal and vanilla sap feature in the base.

Van Cleef & Arpels First Love will be available in 60 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (via cosmeticnews)

More on the Summer Splash trio from Marc Jacobs, which will be released in 10 oz bottles. Despite the name, the fragrances will come with spray atomizers…
