Home fragrance review: Pomander burning essence by Diptyque

Posted by Victoria on 12 January 2006 7 Comments

The fragrance of orange and clove sparkles in the air, reminiscent of winter and holidays. The orange is juicy and rich, conjuring images of orange slices dripping with nectar, while the clove has a delicately spicy and woody character, lending an elegant touch to the fruity aspect of Pomander. While in many cases, clove tends to dominate, in Diptyque Burning Essence, its presence is in the background, even though it is integral to the nature of the fragrance.

The essence is very easy to use, requiring merely a few drops on the cardboard ring provided…

Men's fragrance review: Imperial Jade Emperor by Agatha Brown

Posted by Marlen on 11 January 2006 8 Comments

Agatha Brown’s second men’s fragrance, Emperor, is part of a male/female duo named Imperial Jade and inspired by the precious green stone. Emperor has notes of iced lavender, black currant, Muscat grape, almond honey, stephanotis, jasmine, Parma violet, orris root, waterlily, heliotrope, blue cedar, redwood, sandalwood, tonka bean, amber, vanilla and musk.

If this sounds delicious to you, trust me, it is. One of the most stunning and intoxicating men’s fragrances I’ve ever come across…

Comme des Garcons Zagorsk, and some final thoughts on the incense series

Comme des Garcons Incense series

The last fragrance (alphabetically) in the Incense series by Comme des Garçons is Zagorsk. If you are not familiar with this series, see Monday’s review of Avignon & Jaisalmer and yesterday’s review of Kyoto & Ouarzazate for an introduction.

Zagorsk was the Soviet-era name for the town of Sergiyev Posad. The town, which is not far from Moscow, is home to the Holy Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius, often called the spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox Church. The symbolism of incense in the liturgy is essentially the same as it is in the Catholic Church: it represents purification, an offering, and the rising of prayers to heaven…

The Venexx perfume watch

Posted by Robin on 11 January 2006 6 Comments

The Venexx perfume watch has come to sephora. The stainless steel watch face conceals a small spray atomizer allowing you to refresh your fragrance on the go; a funnel and pipette are included for refills. You can watch a video explaining how it works at the Venexx site.

The original set also included a sample of the Venexx fragrance for women created by perfumer Philippe Bousseton, but the sephora site does not mention that so I don't know if it is included. Available in white, pink or black for $180 at sephora, or in other colors directly from Venexx.

Posted by Anjali on 11 January 2006 4 Comments

With winter in full swing, I've been delving into my collection of hand creams more and more often to help my hands survive the constant assault of the cold, dry, windy weather. An almost daily staple this season has been Santa Maria Novella's Crema Per Le Mani, an amazing hand cream that protects my hands practically all day and manages to smell delicious while doing so…
