A few perfume tidbits…

Posted by Robin on 28 August 2006 12 Comments

Perfume bottles

Am just back from a very quick last hurrah at the beach before school starts and summer officially ends. I didn't bring any perfume, just my new Hermès Jardin Sur Le Nil body lotion, which is high on my list of best finds of 2006.

No time left for a real post, but here are a few odds and ends:

Chandler Burr talks about his new column, Scent Strip, on today's Talk of the Nation on NPR. I haven't had a chance to listen yet; let me know if it is interesting! And thanks to Angela for the tip.

Luilei has added a new webpage (no longer valid, sorry!) allowing online ordering for anyone who wants to take advantage of the discounts they are offering to Now Smell This readers on Brandy and i Profumi di Firenze fragrances.

L'Occitane is offering free shipping on all online orders over $40, good now through 9/3.

Note: the lovely drawing of perfume bottles is via Laurelines.

Agreed! I don't know the bottle with the green top though…

Why, it's Jean Patou's Vacances! Thanks for the nice compliments, you two!

Thanks L, it is a lovely bottle. Liked but didn't love Vacances, but now I want one, LOL…

I haven't been able to listen to the Chander Burr interview yet. Does he explain why his first NY Times “Scent Strip” was almost entirely adapted from his earlier writings? It was a little disappointing, for that reason.

Having a very busy week, so I haven't heard it yet either…but I noticed that too, and was likewise surprised.

Hopefully next time we'll see a few scents he hasn't already covered.

I noticed the recycling, too, but his interview on Talk of the Nation was more interesting. He gave a big thumbs down to Shania's and Derek Jeter's fragrances (said Shania was worse than being locked in a metal box with pesticides, or something to that effect); raved about Light Blue and Fresh's Sake; and said that just like some people are lousy dressers, there will always be lousy perfume wearers, too. I stopped by the Perfume House today and heard that there had been a run on Light Blue, so someone was listening.

A, wonder why he didn't lead off with Shania & Derek Jeter in the NYT then…

And gosh, weren't there already enough Light Blue wearers in the world already? It is almost all I smell in my town.

I'm so excited for Mr. Burr's new column…if nothing else, hopefully it will get more people talking about perfume, and maybe all of us can come out of the closet! 😉

Completely agree…any serious writing about perfume has to be a good thing in the end.
