I had a fragrance review started this morning, but the day has flown by and it still isn't finished. Promise to have it done tomorrow.
Meanwhile, raise your hand if you ever wore New West. If you are my age (and no, I'm not telling), chances are good that you had a bottle at some point.
On other matters: if you are one of the nice people who applied to be a contributor to Now Smell This, I have to apologize. The last few weeks have been very busy and I am still looking over the submissions. I am not sure that I'll manage to reply to everyone personally, but if you haven't heard from me, it doesn't mean anything.

YES! I owned a bottle of New West back in 1991! God,that seems like eons ago!
New West was nice. I had a sample of it and liked it very much. 🙂

K, it was one of the first big aquatic scents, loaded with calone. Very distinctive at the time…wonder if I would hate it now?
I think I saw this at Marshall's recently. It was not something I knew about (not because I'm too young, believe me), so I did not pay much attention. But now the name seems familiar, and I think that is why.
At Marshalls, really? I thought it was long discontinued, but I can't say I've really been paying attention 🙂

Scented body product, I think. I also offered to review home products that now have an “aromatherapy” marketing component.
It is sad but true that I have the memory of a head of cabbage, so I do sincerely apologize…but if you didn't hear back from me already, you might want to email me again. I just looked through what I have, and I don't see a single thing about scented body products.
Now I must go to Marshall's soon (although it may be gone already if it was there), and see if it exists. It could have been something else. I will let you know if it is, in fact, there.
I don't think I ever wore it myself, but I remember sniffing it on a friend's wrist and liking it. I also remember how new and fresh it smelled – rather like CK One, when it appeared. Everybody seemed to be wearing New West for a while in high school.
I think I wore Lanvin's Clair de Jour back then. I only vaguely remember it; very soapy, I think, and probably rather age-appropriate.
I worked at the oil house that created New West and now wish I had stockpiled the stuff. I gave so much of it away! LOL You can still find it at Nordie's and Ulta, just FYI!
It seemed very unusual to me at the time, but now obviously not so much so. Eventually tons of fragrances smelled exactly the same. Clair de Jour I don't remember at all!

That's the way it goes, I guess – it's easy to forget how original some fragrances were when they came.
Clair de Jour is wildly expensive when you can find it nowadays. Does that happen with all fragrances when they've been discontinued for a while, or just the ones with a large fanbase? I really don't think it was anything special; “a soft, powdery floral scent with notes of bergamot, rose, jasmine, vanilla and sandalwood” sounds anything but exciting to me now.
I would say it happens with anything that becomes scarce…the few retailers with remaining bottles jack up the price.
