Perfume review: Burberry Brit & Brit Red

Posted by Robin on 14 June 2005 31 Comments

Burberry Brit perfumeBurberry Brit Red fragrance

After last week’s discussion of niche snobbery, I have vowed to make a bigger effort to include mainstream department store fragrances. Burberry Brit was released in 2003, and its “sister” scent, Brit Red, followed in 2004. Both were created by nose Nathalie Gracia-Cetto, both have won Fifi awards, and both have been huge sellers. There is also a Brit for men, and a Brit Gold will be released this year for the holidays.

Burberry Brit has notes of lime, icy pear, green almond, white peony, sugared almond, mahogany wood, amber, vanilla beans and tonka beans…

New body spray makes women smell younger

Posted by Robin on 14 June 2005 7 Comments

Timeless View is a new body spray from The Smell and Taste Treatment & Research Foundation:

A preliminary clinical study found that men perceived women who wore this formula to be an average of six years younger than their actual age.

The spray had no effect on the perceptions of other women. If I remember correctly, similar results were obtained in experiments using sweat from younger women, but the only note listed for this spray is pink grapefruit. (via prnewswire)

Bergdorf GoodmanI had a wonderful day of perfume shopping with friends in New York City on Saturday. Here is what we saw and smelled:

Bergdorf Goodman: The JAR boutique is not yet open for business, so I was spared the agony of smelling perfumes I cannot possibly afford in this lifetime. We revisited some of the Creeds & Etros, and smelled the recently reissued 1940s classic by D’Orsay, Intoxication. It is pretty but did not captivate me. I also smelled an old favorite, Tiempe Passate by Antonia’s Flowers. One of these days I will buy a bottle.

We trooped over to the Jo Malone area to smell the new Nectarine Blossom, but it is not in stock yet. In happier news, the sales associates at the Guerlain counter say that they will be getting in some of the re-issued scents from Paris. Stay tuned!

I left with a bottle of the lovely Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile, and will review that soon. Meanwhile, S. has a great review on her blog, Ombligo.

Barneys: In an effort to convert some doubters among our group, we spent some time with the Diptyques. Unfortunately I failed to convince the old-classics-are-best school that Diptyque was worthy of consideration. Barneys must agree as they keep these hidden out of sight over by the candles. Philosykos and Tam Dao are among my own favorite fragrances, and I also like L’Ombre dans L’Eau, Olene and Oyedo…
