Sali Oguri: Pink Manhattan

Posted by Robin on 15 June 2005 23 Comments

Sali Oguri Pink Manhattan perfumeSali Oguri moved to New York from Japan at age 5, and has been singing professionally since she was 16 years old. For 10 years, she was the on-camera host for the television series “New Yorkers” on NHK Japan network, and she also hosted the radio show “Switch On New York” for 2 years. You can read a more detailed biography on her website.

Those of you who frequent the fragrance forum at MakeupAlley know Sali as songscent, and she also posts on the Perfume Addicts board as perfsong1. Sali has recently released her first indie solo CD and perfume, Pink Manhattan: Sensorium of Song & Scent. Whatever limited qualifications I have to write about perfume certainly don’t extend to music, so I will say only that Sali has a lovely voice, and I really enjoyed listening to her CD.

Pink Manhattan Purrfume has notes of peach, pear, plum blossom, pink hibiscus, calla lily, gardenia, French vanilla, and musk. Iconosm exhibit at Living With Art

Posted by Robin on 15 June 2005 5 Comments

The Living With Art Gallery in NYC is hosting a series of installations by photographer Laurent Elie Badessi and perfumer Christophe Laudamiel:

The installations play with the interaction between image, color and scent -- palpable and impalpable. "Iconosm", a new word coined by the artists, comes from the ancient Greek words icon (image) and osme (scent). "The sense of smell which is directly linked to one's subconscious dramatically heightens the viewer's emotional state". The various scents are specifically designed for and indissociable from each installation, including one originally developed as part of a study with NASA.

Living With Art is located at 153 Lafayette Street, 7th floor, and the exhibit runs through July 9. (via press release from Living With Art)
