Divine L’Homme de Coeur ~ fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 22 September 2005 24 Comments

Divine L'Homme de Coeur fragrance

L’Homme de Coeur was created for Divine by nose Yann Vasnier, and has notes of angelica, juniper berries, cypress, iris, vetiver, ambergris, and deer tongue.

One might well ask how many variations on cold, earthy iris a person could want or need. If the question had occurred to you after this week’s discussion of Hiris, Bois d’Iris, and Iris Silver Mist, you could of course skip this article, but it would be a shame to miss out on L’Homme de Coeur, which is a beautifully crafted fragrance and probably the least well known of the iris scents discussed so far this week.

L’Homme de Coeur starts with a burst of spicy aromatic notes, heavy on the juniper berry and cypress. It is very brisk and cool, and perfectly evocative of a crisp fall day spent tramping through the fields. Iris-based fragrances frequently have a serene, almost meditative cast, but L’Homme de Coeur feels very alive and rugged…

Fabulous Fragrances of the World: a conversation with Jan Moran

Posted by Robin on 22 September 2005 38 Comments

Jan MoranJan Moran is the author of two volumes on fragrance, Fabulous Fragrances I and II, and the creator of her own fragrance, appropriately called Fabulous. Along with Michael Edwards, the author of Fragrances of the World, she is poised to launch a new online database, Fabulous Fragrances of the World, (see yesterday) designed to provide comprehensive fragrance information to retailers and journalists.

Please tell us how and when you first became interested in fragrance, and what were a few of your early favorites?
My grandmother and mother sparked my earliest interest in fragrance. We shared many favorites: Shalimar, Chanel No. 5, Vol du Nuit, Miss Dior, Nuit de Noël…

Perfume reading ~ on Estee Lauder, fall fragrances & more

Posted by Robin on 22 September 2005 6 Comments

Fortune Magazine has an interesting feature about Estee Lauder's grandchildren and their efforts to keep the family firm competitive. (link no longer works, sorry!)

There is a short roundup of the new fall fragrance releases in New York Magazine. Check it out if you haven't yet seen the pretty etched bottle for L'Artisan Fleur d'Oranger, which they describe as "maybe too light—touch-ups are required throughout the day". Thanks to Tania for the link!

The Detroit Free Press has a feature story on treatments for smell disorders (link no longer works, sorry!). I already have a healthy fear of anosmia, or the inability to smell; now I have some new things to worry about, namely, parosmia (a distorted sense of smell) and phantosmia (smelling things that aren't there).
