Fragrance of the day: Paul & Joe Blanc

Posted by Robin on 10 November 2005 25 Comments

Paul & Joe Blanc perfume

The Paul & Joe line has two fragrances, both introduced in 2003: Blanc, a fresh floral created by Jean Claude Ellena, and Bleu, a warmer oriental by Pierre Bourdon. Today I am trying Blanc, which features notes of hawthorn, angelica, almond, sweet pea, freesia, lily, rose, musk, heliotrope and cloud of milk.

Blanc opens with a touch of citrus, and quickly settles into a soft blend of angelica and hawthorn. There is a tinge of almond that lingers into the dry down, which is otherwise well-blended floral notes — every so often I catch a whisper of freesia or sweet pea — over a light, milky vanillic base. Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur Lait Parfume (Body Milk)

Posted by Anjali on 10 November 2005 5 Comments

Frederic Malle Editions de Parfums is one of my favorite perfume houses, and their Musc Ravageur is one of my Top Five perfumes, so of course I felt compelled to buy the matching body products: the Huile à Tout Faire (body oil) and the Lait Parfumé (body milk). Perhaps it is because of the superb standards and quality of the other Editions de Parfums products I've encountered, but I must admit I am somewhat disappointed in the latter product…

Fragrance of the day: Emporio Armani City Glam for him

Posted by Marlen on 9 November 2005 8 Comments

Emporio Armani City Glam for him

As a huge fan of Emporio Armani White and Night for Him, I have eagerly anticipated the arrival of City Glam, the fourth men’s fragrance released under the Emporio Armani label by Giorgio Armani. The notes include ginger, galangal, bitter orange, mint, musk and pepper.

Am I disappointed? Not exactly. Am I impressed? Not exactly. I’m not sure what to make of this fragrance. A light, fresh offering from Armani, “City Glam” is not exactly what comes to mind, but rather, “Eau de Emporio”. The similarities with White for Men are close, but City Glam seems to have taken cues from classic eau de colognes — I find it nice, unobtrusive, and subtle. To me, this is the scent of a summer day, walking on a hillside wearing linen…
