Ambra del Nepal by i Profumi di Firenze ~ fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 17 November 2005 24 Comments

i Profumi di Firenze Ambra del Nepal perfume

We have been extraordinarily lucky with the weather this month: it has been unseasonably warm up until today. Today, it is cold. I am not ready for cold, but it does give me an excuse to reach for one of my favorite winter fragrances: Ambra del Nepal by the Italian apothecary line i Profumi di Firenze. The notes are amber, cardamom and vanilla.

Ambra del Nepal is probably the only amber fragrance I really adore. The amber smells pale rather than dark, but at the same time, it is deep, rich and resinous, with a whisper of dry incense smoke. It is sweet, but the smoke and a generous dash of cardamom temper the sweetness so that it never feels heavy or cloying, even as the vanilla intensifies on the dry down. News from Kenzo, Azzaro, Serge Lutens

Posted by Robin on 17 November 2005 11 Comments

Coming next year from Kenzo: a new women's fragrance, as yet unnamed, and a new summer limited edition of L'Eau Par Kenzo, Love L'Eau.

Scented billboards? Azzaro is advertising Silver Black in Paris airports using "advertising stations" that "will diffuse the Silver Black scent to a radius of five meters around each station located in proximity to perfumery outlets in the terminals." (both above via cosmeticnews)

The next fragrance from Serge Lutens to join the export range might be named Gris Clair. Thanks to J for passing on the (completely unsubstantiated) rumor!

A new phone from Hyundai for the Chinese market emits the fragrance of your choice when you open the clamshell. The cost? $1200. (via I4U news) A cheaper option: Lenovo's Perfume Phone, which works by "heating a small chamber filled with a few drops of a favorite fragrance, infusing your wrist (or purse or pocket) whenever the phone is turned on." It's a bargain at around $200, but again, only in China. (via Fortune link no longer working, sorry)

Fragrance review: Fragonard Soudain

Posted by Robin on 16 November 2005 25 Comments

Fragonard launched the Confidentiel line this year with four fragrances, all created by perfumers at Givaudan: Mensonge, Cette Nuit La, Apres Tout, and Soudain. The fragrances are priced higher than usual for Fragonard and the packaging has a more modern aesthetic; this would appear to be an effort to capture some of the upscale niche fragrance market. Today I am trying Soudain, which has notes of Italian green mandarin, lemon, Guatamalan cardamom, jasmine, orange blossom, Paraguayan gaiac wood and musk…
