Perfumed packaging & a few new fragrances

The Eastman Chemical Company has developed a new way to add fragrance to product packaging:

In the Chocolatine prototype the cream is scented with chocolate, vanilla and orange and the jar’s lid disperses a fragrance identical to that of the cream. Although Chocolatine is a fully realised product, it will not be marketed directly. (via cosmeticsinternational)

Perfume review: Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan

Osmanthe Yunnan is the fifth and most recent of the Hermessence series, which debuted in 2004 with four fragrances: Vetiver Tonka, Ambre Narguile, Rose Ikebana, and Poivre Samarcande. Like the others, it was created by Hermès house nose Jean Claude Ellena and is available exclusively in Hermès boutiques. The perfume notes are tea, orange, freesia, osmanthus and apricot.

Osmanthe Yunnan opens with sharp, dry citrus; as noted in the comments last week, it is somewhat reminiscent of another Jean Claude Ellena fragrance, Divine Bergamote by The Different Company. As it dries down, Osmanthe Yunnan veers off in another direction, starting with the lightly smoky scent of dried black tea leaves and gradually allowing more of the osmanthus to shine through…

Online fragrance shopping

New at lusciouscargo: the Rancé and Laura Tonatto lines are now on the website, including limited quantities of some discontinued Laura Tonatto scents. Also a new duo from L'Artisan with 15 ml bottles of Timbuktu & Ambre Extreme, and a 1 oz travel spray of Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta with a leather case.

Mandy Aftel perfume exhibit & other fragrance news

The 3A Gallery in San Francisco will be hosting a new exhibit by Mandy Aftel of Aftelier Perfumes called Constructing Perfume, "an interactive exhibit of perfumes and their relationship to space and color". The exhibit opens on December 1st and runs through the 23rd; 3A is located at 101 South Park. For details call 415-543-3347.

Columnist Vince Staten points out that there is nothing new about using body sprays like Axe and Tag to attract girls; that was also the main purpose behind fragrances like Canoe, English Leather, Hai Karate, and British Sterling (link to article no longer working, sorry!).

Fashion Wire Daily talks to Alan Cumming about his eponymous scent and then takes him shopping at Love Saves The Day in the East Village. (link to article no longer working, sorry!)
