Frederic Malle L'Eau d'Hiver

Today I am wearing a regular in my winter fragrance rotation, L’Eau d’Hiver. It was created for Frederic Malle by one of my favorite noses, Jean Claude Ellena. The notes are bergamot, angelica, iris, hawthorn, jasmine, honey, carnation, heliotrope, caramel and musk…

For those of you looking for older Guerlain scents…

Posted by Robin on 10 February 2005 4 Comments

Guerlain is planning a renovation this Spring of their Paris store on the Champs-Elysées. Included will be a new section featuring limited editions, re-releases of discontinued scents, and a custom-scent service. Guet-Apens has already been re-issued for the the Roja Dove boutique in Harrods, with Guerlinade rumored to follow. I am saying a little prayer myself for the Apres L'Ondee parfum, although I probably couldn't afford to buy it.

La Prairie Silver Rain perfumeLa Prairie's new fragrance, Silver Rain, is now available in stores:

The top notes of the fragrance contain a hint of crisp green apple illuminated by verbena flower, dewfruit berry, Thai anise seed, crushed Moroccan coriander and bergamot zest. Middle notes of Moroccan red rose petal, juicy plum, gardenia tuberose blossom, Chinese star magnolia, dewfruit berry, crystallised sugar accord and night-blooming Indian jasmine dry down to a hint of Indonesian patchouli leaves, red sandalwood, creamy Venezuelan tonka bean, heliotrope flower, vanilla infusion, rare agarwood and rich musk.

At $135 for 1.7 oz, this is priced for the luxury market, and for the really big spenders, $2000 will get you a signed limited-edition sterling silver “cachette” of three 1/2-oz. vials, including the Silver Rain and two variations for layering: Silver Sensuality and Silver Spice.

Flowerbomb, the new fragrance from Dutch design team Viktor & Rolf, is also currently launching in stores…

This morning I am testing Laura Tonatto's Sandalo Per Teti

Posted by Robin on 9 February 2005 3 Comments

I heard this scent was a must for sandalwood lovers, and a friend kindly gave me a sample. The Laura Tonatto line is difficult to obtain, unfortunately. The notes are orange, lemon, lavender, black tea, and sandalwood.

It is a sweet sandalwood, slightly resinous in the top notes, and smells to me like there is a good amount of patchouli in the base, and possibly some amber as well. Plaisir, my favorite scent in Tonatto's line so far, also has patchouli, but in Plaisir it is subdued; in Sandalo it is rather overwhelming to a patchouli-hater like myself. I will give this another try, but doubt it is going to work for me. I will stick with my beloved Diptyque Tam Dao.

Another sandalwood possibility: I did a quick sniff of the Sandalwood Eau de Toilette by The Art of Shaving at Neiman Marcus over the weekend, and it seemed interesting. Will try to get a sample of this on my next visit.
