Interesting little tidbit on Jean Claude Ellena

Posted by Robin on 15 February 2005 Leave a Comment

In an interview conducted in 2001, Jean Claude Ellena, the house nose at Hèrmes, states:

I admit that there are some materials I dislike, with which I feel uncomfortable, vanillin, heliotropin, all that is sweetened in general. I prefer salty and bitter. Anyway, I always made sure not to confuse cuisine with perfumery.

Did his tastes change between that interview and the release of the Hermessences last year? I find Ambre Narguile downright foody, and Vetiver Tonka is nothing if not sweet and vanillic…

Happy Valentine’s Day ~ Spezie de Medici by i Profumi di Firenze

i Profumi di Firenze Spezie de Medici

This morning I am wearing one of my winter favorites, Spezie dè Medici by i Profumi di Firenze. What Roja Dove likes

Posted by Robin on 14 February 2005 4 Comments

The Mail on Sunday (2/6/05, but link no longer working, sorry) reports that Roja Dove's favorite 3 scents of all time are Tabac Blond by Caron, Farouche by Nina Ricci, and Lalique by Lalique. How I would love to visit his shop…

More fig fragrances worth trying

Posted by Robin on 13 February 2005 39 Comments

As a finale to the fig-fest of the last couple of days, here are some brief impressions of other fig perfumes I've tried. A few of these I like very much, but none come close to the perfection of Diptyque's Philosykos (the subject of yesterday's rave).

Body Time Green Fig Oil: VERY green, and VERY figgy. Almost too much of a good thing for me, but it is a great layering scent. Very reasonably priced.

Carthusia Io Capri: A fig & tea scent, but the fig is very subdued, and it is very soapy on the dry down. Not my favorite…
